After a year of the NFL’s “Deflategate” saga, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will finally be able to put aside all that bad blood. But how did they get there?
Brady told reporters during his interview at this week’s Super Bowl media day in Atlanta that it was something he had to do for himself: “You have to build off that.”
The “build off of meaning” is a phrase that has been used in sports for years. It means to keep trying and improving on what you have done.
On New Year’s Day, the Washington Wizards put on one of their greatest performances against the Chicago Bulls, but it was in vain.
The Wizards, despite being depleted, fought the top team in the Eastern Conference until the last bell. Nonetheless, Washington’s 10th defeat in 14 games came as the clock neared triple-zeroes.
The Wizards have dropped to the eighth seed and are in urgent need of a win. Rather than being discouraged by the latest humiliating defeat, Wes Unseld Jr.’s squad is opting to focus on the positives.
On New Year’s Day, DeMar DeRozan sunk the Wizards.

On Saturday, the Wizards did almost everything right against the Bulls.
Washington produced one of its greatest games of the season despite losing Spencer Dinwiddie and Montrezl Harrell, among others. On 52.9 percent shooting from the field, the Wizards scored 119 points. They shared the ball really effectively, with 26 assists to just 11 turnovers.
Bradley Beal led the team with 27 points and 17 assists. Kyle Kuzma had a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Daniel Gafford scored 10 points and five rebounds in the third quarter after some early foul trouble. Almost everyone made a contribution in some way.
The Bulls and DeMar DeRozan, on the other hand, would not be denied.
Despite holding the Bulls to less than 50% shooting from the field and forcing 15 turnovers, Chicago hit 17-of-34 from beyond the arc. The Bulls stayed in the game thanks to their long-range shooting, and DeMar DeRozan sealed the deal.
DeRozan hit a game-winning jumper for the second consecutive day after Kuzma hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with seconds left, becoming the first player in NBA history to do it. DeRozan’s exclamation point emphasized his proclivity for late-game heroics. The jumper was almost certainly a gut punch for the Wizards.
Despite this, Washington refuses to concentrate on the game’s most tragic element. Instead, after the game, Beal and his teammates seemed unexpectedly upbeat.
In the locker room, there’s a lot of optimism.

The Wizards might have easily sounded deflated after such a tough finale to their contest with the Bulls. Since a 10-3 start, they’ve struggled mightily.
However, Beal and others feel that the team’s tenacity and talent to begin 2022 will pave the way for a successful run.
“We don’t want to lose,” Beal remarked, as reported by The Athletic. “I don’t believe everyone likes it.” However, we tried all we could to win, and Deebo (DeRozan) simply hit a ridiculous shot late in the game.”
DeRozan’s buzzer-beater left a horrible sensation in Washington’s collective chest, according to Beal. Nonetheless, he said that there is only one direction to go: up.
“But the lesson of the story is that we fought and played hard, and we did all we could to put ourselves in a position to win.” That makes you happy, and you can expand on it in the future. You need to build on it.”
–Bradley Beal, as reported by The Athletic
Despite their setback, the Wizards were upbeat. Beal’s selflessness was appreciated by Unseld. Washington is finally starting to fire on all cylinders, according to Kuzma, because it is distributing the ball.
There’s a cause behind everyone’s optimism. It all begins with Beal.
Bradley Beal’s recent hot streak bodes well for a Wizards comeback.

For Beal, the first 20 or so games were a struggle. He failed to score effectively while also handing the ball over at an alarming rate. The farther the Wizards fell in the Eastern Conference rankings, the more worries about his future loomed bigger.
There seem to be distractions everywhere. Still, Beal is settling into a routine.
The three-time All-Star is averaging 29.8 points on 53.2 percent shooting in his previous five games, including a solid 34.8 percent from outside the arc. During that time, he’s also averaging 8.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds, making an effect on the game in almost every manner.
Beal is putting the pedal to the metal. Kuzma is the same way. In three consecutive games, the divisive forward has scored at least 22 points, including double-doubles in two of them.
Despite the fact that the Wizards have yet to stop bleeding, recent indicators indicate they may be on the verge of doing so. They’re receiving more consistent scoring and playmaking contributions from almost everyone on the roster, and when everyone gets healthy, they should start winning some games.
Finding a method to transform excellent performances into wins is critical, particularly for Beal, who will most likely need more than $235 reasons to stay with Washington this summer.
Basketball Reference provided the statistics.
Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA star, claims Michael Jordan threw away a $10 million check from the Wizards after their tumultuous split: ‘MJ just tossed it out the window and walked away.’
