Rory McIlroy is due to leave for the Olympics in August, and it appears that he might be doing so without any headgear. It is a strange move for an athlete who has rocked an Everlast headband for the past number of years, but a number of sources have reported that McIlroy has been persuaded to go without a hat. The decision has been made to reflect his new lifestyle, team officials say, and while it may seem that he is being ridiculed for the choice, his representatives have stressed that face coverings are simply not practical when playing golf.

Rory McIlroy is an Irish professional golfer who is a member of the Golfing Ireland team that will compete against other countries at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Rory McIlroy is Ireland’s most famous sportsperson, and he’s the only golfer in the world to have won three golf majors in the space of a year. He’s the world’s best golf player, and one of the greatest sportsmen on the planet. He’s the man who took down Tiger Woods in the last major of the year, and he’s the one who is trying to defend his Open Championship title in the US at Pebble Beach in two weeks.

Rory McIlroy is off to a good start in his first Olympics, but his 2-under 69 in the Men’s Individual Stroke Play event was hardly the highlight of his first round in Tokyo.

On Thursday (Tokyo time), McIlroy appeared at the first tee without a hat, which he usually wears on the golf course. It was an unusual appearance for the 32-year-old, who has spent the past decade on the PGA Tour wearing golf hats every week. So, why is McIlroy competing in the Olympics without a hat this year?

For the Tokyo Olympics, Rory McIlroy alters his appearance.

McIlroy made headlines this week during the opening round of the golf tournament at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but not for the reasons you would expect. After the Northern Irishman turned up to the Kasumigaseki Country Club without a hat on his head, the internet was awash with jokes.

On Thursday, McIlroy’s well-groomed, gray-speckled head of hair was the star of the show as he shot a 2-under 69 to tie for 20th place. Shane Lowry, another member of Team Ireland, is one stroke behind him at 1-under.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen McIlroy compete without his cap. He even doesn’t wear a cap at major tournaments like the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup.

But why is it the case?

Why is McIlroy in Tokyo without a hat?

McIlroy was questioned why he didn’t carry a hat on the course after completing his opening round at the Tokyo Olympics. What was his response? He’s got a tiny dome on his head!

“I have such a tiny head,” McIlroy said PGA Tour reporter Sean Martin on Thursday. “My skull is so tiny that I have to have Nike build me bespoke caps, so if I’m in a team event, the hats that aren’t handmade are all too big.”

When asked why he wasn’t wearing a hat at the 2016 Ryder Cup, McIlroy gave a similar answer.

In a tweet, he said, “I have a pea head and the hats were much too large for me!”

Relateable.

McIlroy seems to be in excellent condition to compete for a medal.

McIlroy didn’t seem overjoyed to be playing for Team Ireland in the build-up to the Olympics, but he put up a strong opening round to put himself in contention for a medal. With 54 holes to play, his 2-under 69 puts him six strokes behind the leader, Austria’s Sepp Straka.

With his little experience leading golf events on the PGA Tour, Straka is expected to drop back to the field, so three more solid rounds from McIlroy will place him right at the head of the scoreboard by the last few holes.

Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim, South Korean golfers, must win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics to avoid serving in the military for two years.

Rory McIlroy has always been a pretty cool guy, and he’s only gotten cooler as a golfer. He’s got his own line of clothing, he’s got a shoe deal with Nike, he’s got his own movie made about him, he’s got a girlfriend (and a new baby on the way) — and yet he’s still a completely unkempt mess of hair. It’s sort of like how J.K. Rowling never stops writing Harry Potter, or how Taylor Swift doesn’t stop wearing the same jeans day in and day out. But the question is: why? Why does Rory McIlroy refuse to wear a hat?. Read more about rory mcilroy net worth 2021 and let us know what you think.
