Jayson Tatum is growing up right in front of our eyes. After being named the greatest player on the floor alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the three-time Boston Celtics All-Star has earned superstar status.
With each postseason series, Tatum’s star shines brighter. The camera is frequently pulled to No. 0, and if you look closely, you’ll see him grasp his ears before each game. It’s something he’s done since he was in middle school.
The Boston Celtics, headed by Jayson Tatum, are the hottest team in the NBA right now.

Many people were not surprised when the Miami Heat beat the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Certainly, the four-game sweep raised some suspicions.
The Celtics were the hottest team in the Eastern Conference heading into the playoffs, but it was their slow start that helped them advance. The Celtics seemed to be in a funk after 50 games. They were tied at 25-25 and had wasted a number of significant leads, leading to a lot of angst.
Marcus Smart openly chastised the team’s greatest talents, Jaylen Tatum and Jaylen Brown, for not passing the ball enough. On multiple times, first-year coach Ime Udoka became irritated with his team’s lack of effort. After yet another blown defeat against the New York Knicks in January, Udoka challenges his team’s mental fortitude. The Celtics have reaped the benefits of their efforts.
The Celtics’ 11-point fourth-quarter advantage over the Nets was swiftly erased in Game 1. The Celtics would have imploded if it had occurred three months ago. Instead, they came back from a five-point deficit to win on Tatum’s game-winning buzzer-beater.
The Celtics won the following three games to complete a four-game sweep of the Nets.
Before every Boston Celtics game, Jayson Tatum tugs his ears.
Before each game, several players go through a pre-game protocol. You could see Tatum tugging on his ears shortly before the opening tip if you’ve ever seen him. All of this began in middle school.
He spoke about his pregame routine back in 2014, when he was a standout at Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis.
“I look up into the stands before every game and locate my granny,” Tatum remarked, according to Yahoo Entertainment. “Before the game, we know to look for each other. I pull on my ear when we establish eye contact, and she does the same. It’s just a way for us to communicate that it’s time to go out there and give it my best.”
It had been going on for a long time, according to Tatum.
“I’ve done that with my grandmother since middle school, and it’s something I still do today,” he added. “If I didn’t do it, it wouldn’t seem right.” That’s simply how I roll. I feel compelled to do it.”
He’s still doing it five years into his professional career with the Celtics.
Tatum and the Celtics have advanced to the next round of the playoffs.

With the fast series against the Nets, the Celtics earned some time off. The winner of the Milwaukee Bucks/Chicago Bulls series will play them. The third-seeded Bucks are up 3-1 and can wrap up the series at home with a victory on Wednesday.
The Celtics have gained confidence as a result of their win. Tatum has always had it, but it’s possible it’s become stronger after the Celtics beat up on Durant and Irving.
After the game, Tatum remarked, “I knew I had to be on top of my game in this series.” “I’m not shocked by my performance. I believe I am one of the greatest players on the team. Regardless matter who is on the other squad, it is how I approach the game.”
Udoka said he could tell how much it meant to Tatum to face two of the top players in the game.
“Every time he gets on the floor, we speak to him about being the person,” Udoka said. “You could see he was particularly driven for this series and that matchup.”
