The extra couple days before the start of the playoffs seem to be working for the Houston Rockets. Due to their robust late-season schedule, the Rockets were able to get a few days off before playing a conference finals matchup against the winner of the Portland Trail Blazers vs. Golden State Warriors series. The Rockets are playing at a team level that will surely get them a chance at a championship, but they have the demeanour of a team that is having a bad time of it.

It’s been a rough couple of years for the NBA. The league is stuck in a vicious circle of increasing player injuries and decreasing attendance. The two problems are related, with many of us choosing to stay home when one of the best players in the world has to sit out.  The league is desperately in need of a villain, and Trae Young is their best bet.

On April 1st, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced they had traded 23 year-old superstar player, Kevin Durant, to the Golden State Warriors for a package that consisted of two future first round picks, a second round pick, and a pick swap in 2022.. Read more about trae young and let us know what you think.

Every good story needs a villain. in Friday the 13th – Jason, in A Nightmare on Elm Street – Freddy Krueger, and in the NBA – Tre Young, point guard for the Atlanta Hawks.

After LeBron James, Kevin Durant and James Harden were eliminated from the playoffs, fans were missing an NBA player to cheer for until Young showed up. His guts have made the 2021 NBA playoffs even more exciting.

Trae Young vs New York Knicks

If someone told you the Atlanta Hawks were about to reach the NBA Finals, you’d think they were crazy. But that’s exactly what could happen if the Hawks manage to beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The main reason for the Hawks’ success is Young. He gave the Knicks, who were favorites to beat the Hawks and make the playoffs, a boost. For a New York franchise, that shouldn’t happen.

According to Basketball, Young averaged nearly 30 points per game, 10 assists and three rebounds. For some players, performing at Madison Square Garden in front of New York Knicks fans can be intimidating, but not for Young. He parades in front of the crowd and shows no fear, much to the annoyance of the Nix people.

The Past of NBA Villains

It’s hard to find a good villain in the NBA these days because everyone seems to love each other. The biggest villain for most people is probably LeBron James of the Lakers, but even he’s hard to hate.

But in the late ’80s and early ’90s, there were plenty of NBA players to hate. You can start with the bad boys of the Detroit Pistons. Choose a player, any player on this team. But mostly people hated Bill Laimbeer the athlete. Everywhere he went, he was booed. But, like Young, he loved playing the role of the bad guy.

Dennis Rodman is another player who was not appreciated when he played for the Pistons and the Chicago Bulls. Both Laimbire and Rodman were considered dishonest players, which is why they were so hated.

Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and even Magic Johnson were once considered villains by fans in other cities, mainly because they were capable of delivering a stab in the heart like Young did to the Knicks. Utah and Cleveland fans still blame Jordan for dashing their playoff hopes with a last-minute shot. The same could be said for Magic and Bird when they faced each other in the NBA Finals. Fans in Boston and Los Angeles can witness the pain the two players caused in their respective cities.

NBA villains are good for the game

The 2021 NBA Playoffs are much more interesting this year than last, not only because of the young talent, but also because of players like Tra Young, who has become an arch nemesis for opponents. Not only did he destroy the Knicks with his play, but he’s doing the same to the Bucks, who should have made it to the NBA Finals.

But that’s what good villains are supposed to do: be killers.

The NBA is so much more interesting and fun when there are players to cheer for. Trae Young has officially taken the place of Durant and James, who were knocked out of the playoffs by the Milwaukee Bucks and Phonics Suns, respectively.

Because of his play, Young has become one of the elite players that fans across the country love to cheer for, but also have an undisguised respect for his play on the field. For the NBA, this is not a bad thing.
