Last week, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report that the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers have agreed to terms on a contract extension that makes Rodgers the highest-paid player in the NFL. The deal is a four-year extension that will take Aaron through the 2018 season, and will pay him $134 million over the life of the contract, Rapoport reported. The contract is reportedly worth $5 million per year, which means Rodgers is set to make $55 million over the next four years.

Rodgers recently told reporters how much he enjoys playing in Green Bay, the city he has called home since 1998, and the team has reportedly offered him a contract extension that will make him the highest paid player in the history of the team.

By returning to work, Aaron Rodgers put an entire fan base at rest. However, just because the Green Bay Packers seem to be a strong Super Bowl candidate at the present does not guarantee they will continue to compete for the Lombardi Trophy in the future.
With Rodgers’ future in Green Bay unclear, the prospect of the three-time MVP ending his career in a different jersey seems more plausible than ever. In fact, the Packers are said to have reached a deal with their greatest player, which should cause other NFL clubs to rethink their strategy for the most important position in sports.

Last season, the Packers came agonizingly close to reaching the Super Bowl. Ironically, Rodgers (along with head coach Matt LaFleur) had a role in Green Bay’s NFC championship game loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lambeau Field. However, if all goes according to plan, the reigning MVP will get an opportunity to avenge himself in January.
Despite months of anticipation that Rodgers might retire or sit out the 2021 season, this did not occur. The star quarterback arrived at training camp thanks to some last-minute discussions and compromises made by the Packers, which included trading for Randall Cobb. For Green Bay supporters, Rodgers’ decision to forgo voluntary planned team activities and obligatory minicamp for the first time was a pleasant surprise.
The Packers seem capable of making a real run at the Lombardi Trophy in 2021, with their most important and accomplished player completely committed. The offense has top-five potential, and the defense has the ability to be outstanding as well.
Of course, Rodgers’ availability is critical to Green Bay’s position as a legitimate Super Bowl candidate. Even though he’ll be returning for another year, the future Hall of Famer’s future remains unclear beyond the 2021 season.
According to reports, the Packers have reached an agreement with the reigning MVP that will force NFL teams to reconsider their quarterback plans.
Jay Glazer provided an update on some of the league’s best quarterbacks during FOX’s coverage of the Hall of Fame preseason game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Naturally, Rodgers was mentioned.
According to Glazer, the Packers have a verbal agreement with their longstanding leading quarterback to move him after the 2021 season if he still wants out. From a legal standpoint, a non-written, handshake agreement has no enforceable ties. Glazer’s claim, on the other hand, indicates that Green Bay is aware of the truth of the issue, which involves a star who has made it plain that he does not agree with every decision made by the club.
The news shouldn’t come as a complete shock to Packers supporters. Of course, it doesn’t alter the fact that having to say goodbye to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time will be difficult.
Other fan bases, on the other hand, should be ecstatic about the possibility of acquiring an NFL great. Glazer’s revelation should make clubs rethink their strategy for the most important position in sports. Why not go after a known commodity instead of a college quarterback with a first-round selection if Rodgers wants out after the season? And wouldn’t Rodgers be a huge improvement for clubs with an average or even B-level starter?
Rodgers’ ideal trade locations
Unless the Packers win the Super Bowl and Rodgers finds a way to forgive Brian Gutekunst for all of his errors, the 37-year-old seems like he’ll be playing somewhere else in 2022.
So, which clubs should be itching to make a counter-offer?
Rodgers has been connected to the Denver Broncos this offseason, so they seem to be a natural option to make a play for the rocket-armed, sharp-thinking quarterback. Allowing him to lead an offense with intriguing playmakers like Jerry Jeudy, Courtney Sutton, KJ Hamler, and Noah Fant seems to be a certain route for the Broncos to return to the Super Bowl conversation.
How can the Philadelphia Eagles be ruled out as a possible destination? Jalen Hurts is a total enigma, and the club lacks a potential replacement. GM Howie Roseman is eager for a franchise quarterback, and although Rodgers may not be the long-term answer, he definitely seems capable of playing at an elite level for at least another two or three years.
What about the Pittsburgh Steelers? Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins don’t inspire much confidence, and Ben Roethlisberger may retire at any moment.
Why not swap out one of the future Hall of Famers for another?
On the other hand, Aaron Rodgers could surprise everyone by deciding to end his career with the Packers.
