But none of it mattered, as Chase was picked up by Cincinnati, bringing the two LSU studs back together from the Tigers’ National Championship team.
This selection was a huge success, and this quarterback/wide receiver combination has the potential to be one of the finest in the NFL for a long time.
A risky move has proven to be just what this Bengals squad needed.
Sewell is, without a doubt, a once-in-a-generation offensive lineman. Chase, on the other hand, is a one-of-a-kind wide receiver. Burrow’s lack of protection and Chase’s absence from the 2020 collegiate season were both negative aspects of the decision.
After just seven months, Chase’s pick seems to be the finest thing the Bengals could have done. It’s still early, but the chemistry is exactly where it was in Baton Rouge. On 35 catches, the Bengals’ teenage wideout has 754 yards and six touchdowns. Chase is directly behind Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp for second in the NFL in receiving yards, and he’s ahead of reigning leader Davante Adams.
Remember, all of this happened after skepticism surrounded him during a drop-filled preseason.
Chase blasted the Baltimore defense on Sunday, catching eight passes for 201 yards and an 82-yard touchdown.
The Burrow-Chase connection has been going strong so far, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Chase is on his way to being named Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he might surpass Justin Jefferson’s 1400-yard total from the 2020 season.

Yes, at the time, Sewell seemed to be the best choice. To be fair, the Detroit Lions rookie fits right in with the rest of the league, albeit on a shaky offense.
However, there’s no disputing that Chase’s pick was just what the Bengals needed. They are ranked 7th in terms of points per game, 13th in terms of yards per game, and 11th in terms of throwing yards per game.
Burrow has passed for 1956 yards and 17 touchdowns, with his old college teammate accounting for more than a third of those yards. The offensive line still has to be improved, but Chase is much too excellent to be passed up.
Sewell will have a successful NFL career, but the Cincinnati offense, led by Burrow and Chase, is the focus of the league, especially after a 41-17 thumping of the Ravens on Sunday in Baltimore, of all places.
