As the Warriors prepare to welcome back DeMarcus Cousins, the team will soon have to start thinking about who their second-best center will be. The obvious choice is Kevon Looney, and the talented young player has all the tools to be a solid backup. However, after the Warriors made a move to acquire Cousins, the logical frontcourt mate became a new topic of discussion.

The Golden State Warriors are looking for a new nickname, and with the acquisition of Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer, they’re hoping the team will be called, “The Durantators.” While “The Dubs” sounds like a respected alternative to “Warriors,” the nickname “The Durantators” will sound like Erik Estrada’s character on”CHiPs.”

The Golden State Warriors, a team without a true superstar, are in the midst of a renaissance. Since their incredible start to the 2015-16 season, the Warriors have won seven straight playoff games, the second longest such streak in NBA history.. During the 2021-22 NBA season, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors aim to be title contenders once again. With Klay Thompson returning and talented rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody joining the club, they have a great chance to accomplish so.

They are, however, welcome back an old buddy who helped them win three championships during their five-year reign of terror.

Andre Iguodala is that old buddy.

Stephen Curry and the Warriors won three championships with the assistance of Andre Iguodala.

Andre Iguodala joined Stephen Curry and the Warriors in 2013-14 after eight seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and one with the Denver Nuggets.

Iguodala was a key player off the bench the next season, helping them become one of the greatest teams in the NBA. He finished fourth on the team in defensive box plus-minus, which measures how many defensive points a player provides per 100 possessions (above league average). He also had a 7.8-point and 1.2-steal average.

Iguodala, on the other hand, was probably Golden State’s best player in the NBA Finals that year. He averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while also defending LeBron James at a high level. The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 in the series, and he was named Finals MVP.

Over the following four seasons, Iguodala continued to provide valuable minutes for the Warriors, assisting them in reaching the finals five times in a row and winning three championships.

Next Golden State’s loss in the 2019 NBA Finals due to injuries to Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, Durant joined the Brooklyn Nets, while Thompson sat out the following season. Iguodala was subsequently moved by the Warriors to the Memphis Grizzlies, who eventually traded him to the Miami Heat.

Iguodala spent the last two seasons with Miami and will participate in his sixth consecutive finals in 2020. However, the Heat rejected Iguodala’s club option this summer, making him a free agent.

Andre Iguodala intends to join the Golden State Warriors.

As a free agent, Iguodala is expected to return to the Warriors after the two sides reached an agreement, according to ESPN.

“Who would have guessed I’d be able to return to the place where I was able to have, whatever you want to call it, legacy years in terms of achievements, numerous championships, and the connections I was able to form with some of my best friends and teammates?” According to ESPN, Iguodala told The New York Times.

“The connection with the people, the relationship with the Bay, the chance to finish (his career) here was simply something special,” he added.

Iguodala will not determine whether the Warriors reach the championships or lose early in the playoffs. Last season, he only scored 4.4 points per game for Miami. However, the two-time All-Defensive team selection will continue to provide important leadership and a strong defensive presence off the bench for his old club.

Iguodala may end up being an underappreciated acquisition to the Warriors.

Will Stephen Curry and the Warriors be able to win a championship in 2021-22?

Last season, the Warriors’ Stephen Curry was one of the greatest players in the league, leading the NBA in scoring with 32.0 points per game. Golden State, on the other hand, was without Klay Thomson for the second year in a row due to an injury, and as a result, they lost in the play-in tournament and were unable to make a playoff run.

They will, however, have not just Curry, who recently signed a new four-year contract, Iguodala, and 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green, but Thompson should also be back on the court in 2021-22. They’ll also have Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall selection in 2020 who has a potential to make a huge leap in 2021, and Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, who are also in the top 14 in the 2021 draft.

Golden State is a playoff contender only because of Curry, Green, and Thompson. However, if Wiseman can grow into the dominating big man that many anticipate him to be, and if Kuminga and Moody can contribute in any manner, the Warriors should have enough potential to be one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

In 2021-22, Golden State has a potential to do a lot, and Iguodala will be a big part of it.
