With a victory against the Boston Celtics in this year’s NBA Finals, Stephen Curry has a chance to add to his already Hall of Fame history. Curry may earn his fourth title if the Warriors win the series, and he also has a chance to win his first-ever Finals MVP award.
Is his success, though, all due to the skill that the Golden State Warriors have surrounded him with? It has, without a doubt, helped. Curry won two championships with the help of Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will almost certainly be in the Hall of Fame when it’s all said and done.
Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, on the other hand, isn’t giving Curry the credit he deserves, as seen by his latest remark about Russell Westbrook and James Harden.
Thompson, according to Smith, should be higher on the all-time list than both Westbrook and Harden.

On ESPN’s NBA Countdown, Smith pondered if a fourth title would allow Stephen Curry to overtake Kevin Durant for the all-time record.
He said unequivocally that he did not believe so. But it isn’t the story’s major point. During the discussion, Smith and his colleagues inevitably discussed the players Curry and Durant had played with throughout their careers. And he believes Steph has had more assistance than KD.
Klay Thompson, Curry’s teammate since 2011, is a greater all-time player, according to the analyst, than James Harden and Russell Westbrook, both of whom played with Durant on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
On the May 29 broadcast, he remarked, “I believe Klay Thompson deserved to be ahead of both James Harden and Russell Westbrook (on the NBA 75 list).”
Is it true that he stated that? Yes, but his claim was far from accurate.

Don’t get me wrong: Klay Thompson is a potential Hall of Famer and one of the all-time great shooters. He’s also a better defender than James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
Russ and The Beard, on the other hand, are generational figures.
Westbrook has twice led the NBA in scoring and three times in assists in his career. He also earned the NBA MVP award in 2016-17 and has the most triple-doubles in league history (194). Not to mention the fact that the UCLA graduate has four times averaged a triple-double in a season.
Harden, on the other hand, is regarded as one of the best scorers in NBA history. In 2018-19, he topped the league in scoring three times, averaging 36.1 points per game. In 2016-17, he topped the league in assists per game and was named MVP and Sixth Man of the Year.
Thompson has been a fantastic Warriors second star (third when Kevin Durant was there). He’s a five-time All-Star, and his clutch shooting has aided Golden State’s six Finals appearances in the last eight years. However, he is not as accomplished a player as Westbrook and Harden have been in their respective careers.
Klay Thompson deserves to be among the top 75 all-time players, but Stephen A. Smith has no way of believing he is better than Russell Westbrook and James Harden. It’s ludicrous to even consider such a thing.
