The New York Times published a piece on September 4th, 2018 that had the headline “I Don’t Like JT. I Love LeBron James.”
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are two young, promising talents for the Boston Celtics. The two are the team’s heart and soul, but their relationship has lately taken center stage. How well do they get along? Is it possible for them to coexist? The two recently cleared the air in the hopes of putting any squabbles behind them before the start of the NBA season.

Tatum and Brown are both young talents who have signed long-term contracts with the Celtics. Perhaps this is why people keep asking about their connection. Fans have seen some squabbling between the two, but that is to be expected. Teammates, coaches, and families will all have disagreements from time to time. Tatum and Brown are in the same boat.
Tatum is regarded as the leading man. He’s played in the NBA for four seasons and has been in two NBA All-Star games. He’s 23 years old. In each of those four seasons, the former Duke star has progressed, and last year he averaged 26.4 points per game.
Brown is a celebrity in his own right, but he isn’t quite as well-known as Tatum. Last season, he was named to his first all-star team after averaging 24.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Despite individual accomplishment, the Celtics ended with a 36-36 record last season. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Brooklyn Nets. Boston’s frustrations were at an all-time high during the year.
The connection between Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown was questioned as tensions with the Celtics grew.
For the Celtics, it was a bad year all around. When things go wrong, the stars are generally held responsible. Tatum and Brown received the brunt of the criticism in this instance. Many people assumed they didn’t get along. Fans in Boston seemed to be obsessed with their connection. To debunk that idea, the two met down with Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston.
“I think that’s a fair way to describe it – people have an obsession, and they feel compelled to speak about it,” Tatum said. “Is it a matter of ‘Are they friends?’” says the narrator. Do you think they’re cool? Do they socialize? Is there a reason they don’t get along?’ It’s like, I don’t want to say it’s strange, but could you image being our age and in the limelight, with everyone wanting to know whether you’re buddies with another 24-, 25-year-old? I mean, I suppose people have to speak about something.”
Tatum claimed that they are good friends.
Tatum added, “I’ve known JB for seven or eight years and, like he mentioned, we’ve gone through some things together.” “We’ve been in the playoffs, on the cusp, had a few hot debates, and had a lot of fun.” And I believe that’s simply a natural aspect of spending time together. And, yes, we’re coming to a close. His family, for example, has been keeping an eye on my kid. People are diverse, and they have different hobbies, but that’s simply a part of living together.”
Tatum and Brown even made a joke about it.
“That’s my dog, if you want to hear it from me.”

Brown couldn’t help but laugh about his connection with Tatum when he initially talked about it.
“I’m not a big fan of JT. Let’s get it out of the way right now,” he joked. “I’m simply having fun.” You understand what I mean when I say that’s my guy. It’s strange to discuss it on camera. That is, nevertheless, my man.”
Brown clarified the situation. He doesn’t have any issues with Tatum.
“You may come to me anytime you need anything,” Brown added. “Is there anything we need to speak about?” We are able to pick up the phone. Do you get what I’m saying? That’s the way things are. People may be strange at times, I suppose (to wonder about their relationship).
“That’s my dog if you want to hear it from me.”
That’s all there is to it, Celtics supporters. If Boston fails again this season, look for something else to question than the two stars’ relationship.
