New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was removed from the team’s locker room by security during halftime of a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, per ESPN.

The “will odell beckham play tomorrow” is a question that has been asked for the past few days. The Cleveland Browns have not said anything about the situation, but it seems like Odell Beckham Jr. is being anonymously ripped from inside the locker room. He does nothing, and he just leaves.

Few players in NFL history have been as disappointing for the Cleveland Browns as Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham has been lackluster since being traded to the Browns in March of this year. That much is undeniable: he has the skill and star power to be the league’s best wide receiver. His heart and attitude, though, have been called into doubt. It’s almost as if OBJ isn’t on the field if he doesn’t receive the ball.

It’s not as if it would make a difference to Cleveland at this point.

Beckham Jr. has been excused from both sessions thus far. He’s most likely played his last snaps with the Browns.

His relationship with the Browns has deteriorated to the point that the divorce has already reached the “unknown source inside the locker room” stage.

Odell Beckham Jr., according to a source within the Browns’ locker room, is a disgruntled player.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network highlighted remarks from an unidentified source within Cleveland’s locker room when reporting on Beckham Jr.’s position with the team. While ESPN stated that numerous Browns players want OBJ to remain, Garafolo’s source presented a totally different image.

Of all, there are always numerous sides to a story, and different individuals in the same locker room might have very different reactions to the same occurrence. However, what the NFL Network reporter heard from a Beckham teammate did not put the veteran wide receiver in a positive way.

Garafolo reported, “This is from a player.” “‘He doesn’t do anything.’ No one knows who he is. He simply has a sour disposition.’”

“You’re witnessing what’s going on within the building.” “Whether it’s Baker Mayfield’s fault or someone else’s fault, he’s obviously frustrated that he’s not receiving the football,” Garafolo said, justifying his reporting. “It’s on exhibit within the structure.”

Garafolo did acknowledge that there are Browns players that want to see Beckham play with the club, but it seems that he is also contributing to Beckham’s absence. Keep in mind that he hasn’t been banned or removed from the squad yet (yet).

“The players are saying, ‘We’d love to have him back if he wants to be here because he’s a tremendous player who could be a huge part of our offense,’” the reporter added.

Garafolo reiterated that it all boils down to whether or not OBJ wants to be in Cleveland, and based on his sources, it seems that the wideout does not.

How did the Browns and Odell Beckham Jr. end up here?

Baker Mayfield and OBJ

While Aaron Rodgers’ COVID-19 tale has dominated the NFL headlines, in Cleveland, a tempest has been quietly developing.

The Browns have lost three of their previous four games, including a 15-10 defeat against the Steelers. With the team now in fourth place in the AFC North, frustrations are certain to rise, and it’s worth noting that Beckham Jr. has enough to be angry about. This season, he hasn’t caught a touchdown pass and has just 17 catches for 232 yards.

Against the Steelers, he was targeted six times and only managed one grab for six yards.

OBJ’s father released a video on social media early Tuesday, the day before the NFL trade deadline, that featured a highlight reel of all the times his son has gotten open for the Browns but QB Baker Mayfield has missed him. He also gave three green checkmarks on a comment on the page criticizing Mayfield, indicating that he agreed with statements like “Baker simply doesn’t want to get Odell the ball” and “either he’s hating on Odell, or he just doesn’t want him shining.”

While it may seem harmless enough at first, a parent protecting his kid, OBJ was ordered not to show up to practice the following day and granted an excused absence. He again failed to show up for practice on Thursday, prompting reports that head coach Kevin Stefanski informed his players that Beckham was “essentially not on the squad” and that the two sides were working on a settlement.

Mayfield, to his credit, did talk about the matter.

“I’ve had man-to-man, face-to-face meetings with his father before, and I was fairly startled by the video and the goals and thoughts behind it,” the quarterback added. “If I stated differently, I’d be lying.”

“We’ll work through it and do whatever it takes if he comes back,” Mayfield added. “I can win by putting my ego and pride aside. Because winning is all that matters to me. If not, we’ll have to make do with the personnel we have.”

This will very certainly be a depressing conclusion to OBJ’s terrible performance in Cleveland.

Beckham’s trade to the Browns was once the topic of conversation in the NFL. During his tenure with the New York Giants, he had essentially become a celebrity, and his legendary one-handed catch had made him almost world famous.

OBJ was expected to be a key part of the Browns’ puzzle, and he was going to be a big weapon for Mayfield. However, his success never materialized, and suspicions about his temperament and “diva nature” as a football player were shown to be correct.

He did had a solid start to the season, catching 74 catches for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns for the Browns in 2019. Due to a season-ending ACL injury, he only appeared in seven games in 2020. In 2021, he’s made it through six games, but it doesn’t seem like the remainder of his season will be spent in Cleveland. At this point, he’ll most likely be discharged.

In 59 games with the Giants, Beckham caught 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns. In 28 games with the Browns, he’ll most likely finish up with only 114 receptions for 1,586 yards and seven touchdowns.

Before the start of the 2021 season, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman was questioned about his thoughts on the deal, and he offered two words for you that will tell you all you need to know about how disappointing OBJ has been for Cleveland.

According to, he said, “I’m pleased.”

ESPN and Pro Football Reference provided the statistics.
