Michael Jordan has chimed in on the debate between PGA Tour golf and LIV Golf. The NBA legend says he’s a fan of both sports, but thinks that if you’re looking for an incredible experience as a golfer then play at LIV.

Michael Jordan is the best athlete when it comes to understanding how business and sports overlap. The basketball star used his ground-breaking contract with Nike to build a vast empire that included ownership of an NBA franchise and entry into the triple-comma club (i.e., a net worth over $1 billion).
Jordan is thus in high demand as a lawyer. When a golfer at a crossroads in his career sought Jordan’s counsel on the rivalries between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, Jordan assisted him in weighing the pros and cons of each organization.

Michael Jordan’s enormous net worth is the result of his extraordinary athletic ability and the successful business career he started after signing a lucrative endorsement contract with Nike as an NBA rookie. Varner, 31, has played on the PGA Tour continuously since the 2015–16 season, making an average of 27 appearances and earning $1.35 million year while also dabbling in the European and Asian tours. In 183 career PGA Tour appearances, he has finished second once and third twice.

When Harold Varner III sank a 50-foot putt to win the $1 million first prize at the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour in February, he suddenly became well-known.
He is a successful Saudi Arabian golfer who is middle-aged (in golf years, at least), in the center of the pack, and has ties to Michael Jordan. He essentially fits Greg Norman’s criteria for the kind of player he wants to sign to round out the roster for the fledgling LIV Golf circuit, which began this month in London.
In a Sports Illustrated article, Varner described the scale of LIV’s offer as “crazy.” That most likely translates to $10 million to $20 million. It is particularly alluring since it represents five or more years’ worth of expected PGA Tour earnings.
While suffering from tonsillitis, Varner had rounds of 72 and 73 at the U.S. Open this weekend, missing the cut by two strokes. Varner probably has an open-ended opportunity to go up. He claims that it is irrelevant.
Varner said, “I’m definitely not going. “Jay and I talked” (Monahan, PGA Tour commissioner). I’ve spoken to a number of individuals whose opinions I respect, but it simply wasn’t worth it to me. That is rather easy.
He was urged by Michael Jordan to continue on the PGA Tour.

Harold Varner III said he sought advice from a number of sources as he considered LIV Golf’s offer. Michael Jordan, whose business has sponsored the golfer for the last four years, was one of them. Jordan is more adept at balancing the athletic and financial ramifications even though Varner is not a kid. According to the publication, Jordan recommended against quitting the PGA Tour.
Varner said, “I’m sure he’s made judgments like these long before I was ever born.” “But there have been many individuals that I look up to who are clearly quite rich and successful and come from diverse areas in the globe,” the author says.
In all honesty, Varner’s choice was made easy by the PGA Tour players who chose to withdraw. Varner might move up five to ten positions on the final scoreboard as a result of the defections, depending on the registration list for a specific event.
