The Miami Dolphins have shipped out quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans, but who will be the starter when they face the New England Patriots in Week 5? The Dolphins have been open about their search for a franchise QB, and after cutting Osweiler this week, they have cleared $17.9 million in cap space by moving on from the 26-year-old veteran.
The Heisman Trophy is the award that college football fans have been watching for the last 17 years, and this year’s race to be the winner is among the most interesting in recent history. With the likes of Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen all in the mix, it is clear the race has the potential to be a memorable one.
If you look at the résumés of the NFL Draft’s top two quarterbacks, you will see that one is unlikely to be drafted at all. Josh Allen’s highlight reel of imitating the Heisman Trophy winner is something you would see in a trailer for a movie, not a highlight reel of an NFL prospect. Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield is the only quarterback in the draft who has the physical traits of an NFL signal-caller. His height, arm strength, ability to stand in the pocket, and quick release are all comparable to the NFL quarterbacks who are likely to be drafted in the first round. That said, Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers are the only two signal-callers to win the Heisman Trophy after. Read more about josh allen and let us know what you think.
Young quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have dollars in their eyes and Super Bowl-sized holes in their pockets. These three quarterbacks, all selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, are entering their fourth season. By the way, they may all sign contract extensions in the coming months. If Jackson plays his cards right, he has a great chance to cash and to fulfill the dreams of Allen and Mayfield.
Jackson’s contract extension will likely create a market for Allen and Mayfield

Most professional athletes work with an agent to negotiate and sign contracts. Jackson, the 2019 NFL MVP, is not part of that club.
Jackson’s mother, Felicia Jones, worked for several years as her son’s de facto agent. Instead of hiring an agent like Drew Rosenhaus to represent him and negotiate a huge contract extension with the Ravens, the fourth-year quarterback is now negotiating his contract himself.
In the absence of a legitimate, certified agent, Jackson uses his personal advisors. ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, who practiced labor law for years before getting into sports media full-time, says NFL teams can’t negotiate with a registered agent who isn’t a union.
Regardless of what Jackson gets in his contract, it will define the market for Allen and Mayfield. If the Ravens give Jackson a four-year contract with $100 million in guaranteed money, the other two quarterbacks with traditional agents will naturally demand more. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott received $95 million in guaranteed money when he signed a contract extension earlier this year.
Allen and Mayfield need to get Jackson to sign an extension first

If Allen and Mayfield, and their representatives, play their cards right, both will benefit from Jackson’s risky decision to forgo the services of a registered agent.
Jackson has no legal representation, which could backfire at the negotiating table. He might even have to settle for aor less thansalary because he doesn’t have an agent to deal with potential quarterback injuries.
Jackson hasn’t missed an injury time in three NFL seasons. However, with a quarterback who gets hit hard, the Ravens will likely want to keep the scrambling or running plays in the specially designed quick games where they can. Allen missed four games as a rookie with an elbow injury, but has since been healthy. Mayfield suffered two concussions in college, but he hasn’t had any serious injuries in the NFL.
Allen is an excellent runner in the Bills offense, but he is also an excellent passer with two playoff wins to his credit. A first-round pick in 2018, Mayfield has developed into a disciplined game manager with a strong arm and tremendous composure.
Neither should rush to sign a contract extension, at least not until Jackson officially puts his name under the Ravens’ contract offer. Allen and Mayfield took a fifth-year option earlier this year and have contracts through the end of the 2022 season.
These three will dominate the AFC for years to come
The AFC belongs to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, at least until proven otherwise. These three quarterbacks and their teams have the best chance to plant the seeds of change.
In July 2021, all three teams had excellent chances to win Super Bowl 56. Allen and the Bills are worth +$1200 ($100 bet, $1300 win) after reaching the AFC Championship game last season. Only the Chiefs (+500) and Buccaneers (+650) have higher odds.
Jackson and the Ravens are in sixth place with +1400 points. Mayfield and the Browns are right behind them with a +1600 rating, which in itself is an incredible feat for one of the oldest professional sports franchises in North America.
Mahomes signed a 10-year, $503 million contract through 2020. While the big three in the 2018 draft probably won’t come close to those numbers, we’ll see how important their own additions are when the time comes.
