As the season winds down, it appears that Russell Westbrook is done in L.A., but it’s not because of his play on the court; he might just be too good for Lakers coach Luke Walton and co.

The “russell westbrook news” is a story that has been going on for quite some time. The Lakers have shut the door on any chance of moving Russell Westbrook.

Lakers Stubbornly Shutting the Door on Any Chance of Moving Russell Westbrook

The Los Angeles Lakers expected a difficult adjustment for star point guard Russell Westbrook, but they didn’t expect it to be as bad as it has been. Westbrook’s problems have spurred speculation about the team’s prospects of winning the NBA championship, leading to trade rumors. The Lakers may have effectively shut the door on any chance of moving the nine-time All-Star before the deadline next month.

The Lakers’ persistent troubles with Russell Westbrook

The Lakers have struggled this season, splitting their first 48 games and finishing last in the Western Conference playoff race.

The team’s problems have brought attention to Westbrook’s persistent troubles. He’s averaging 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game while racking up nine triple-doubles.

Westbrook, on the other hand, has battled with late-game decision-making, and his outside shooting troubles (29.3 percent from 3-point range) have added to the rising worries. All of these considerations have made moving him before the deadline next month extremely impossible.

The Lakers may have effectively put an end to that possibility.

NBA Trade Rumors: The Lakers are steadfastly refusing to trade Russell Westbrook.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Lakers’ standout point guard continues to attract little outside interest.

The nine-time All-problems, Star’s along with his enormous deal, have made him an unattractive component, with just the Houston Rockets ready to trade for him. The Lakers, on the other hand, may have put an end to any likelihood of his being traded to the Rockets.

“Yet there are also big optics difficulties for the Lakers,” said Marc Stein of the New York Times recently. “Sources say team executives don’t want to pay a premium to move on from Westbrook so quickly after the Lakers gave up so much to obtain him.” Remember, after James and Davis encouraged the Lakers’ front office to go all-in for Westbrook rather than proceed with GM Rob Pelinka’s plans to trade for Sacramento’s Buddy Hield, they had to send Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 pick in last July’s draft to Washington.

The Lakers are concerned that it would look like they missed out on Westbrook twice. Any deal would almost certainly necessitate the trade of another first-round selection, implying that they would have to part with additional assets.

Los Angeles is effectively hinting that it will go ahead with Westbrook until a three-team agreement is reached. The return of Anthony Davis may only heighten interest in seeing what their big three can achieve together for the remainder of the season. To put it another way, Westbrook will have a chance to conclude his first season with the Lakers.

Russell Westbrook will most likely continue to play for the Lakers.

Even if Westbrook’s tenure with the Lakers has been rocky, he still has time ahead of him.

Los Angeles still has 34 regular-season games to establish out who they are, particularly now that their top three players are all healthy. The Lakers have only played 16 games with all of its players together, which is insufficient to form a long-term relationship.

The time is ticking, however, as the Lakers don’t have much space for lengthy skids. Davis’ return will give the team a major boost defensively while also providing a much-needed scoring punch.

Westbrook must fit into his position as the third offensive element after Davis and LeBron James if the Lakers are to have a genuine shot of winning the NBA championship. He’s under pressure to figure it out, because if he doesn’t, his homecoming may be a letdown.

Terrence Ross of the Orlando Magic seems to be a “natural target” for the Lakers at the NBA Trade Deadline.
