After the 49ers’ embarrassing loss to the Rams earlier this week, Kyle Shanahan reacted in a way that was both surprising and telling. The coach said he wasn’t surprised by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s departure after his five-touchdown performance but instead focused on what happened with defensive end Dee Ford.

The “49ers head coach” is Kyle Shanahan. He was asked about the 49ers’ embarrassing week 9 loss and how it has affected him. Shanahan said that he was very surprised by the result of the game, but also noted that he’s not losing control of the locker room.

Kyle Shanahan has had a mystery about him since taking over the San Francisco 49ers. His shrewd play-calling, stylish sideline footwear, and ability to get the most out of below-average talent are all examples of his brilliance. Shanahan has long been regarded as one of the best offensive brains in the league.

However, after a 3-5 start to 2021, Shanahan’s previously impregnable position seems to be asking to be touched.

Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers are battling to win.

Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, AJ Green, JJ Watt, and Chase Edmonds are all out for the 49ers, who are down 14-0 to the Cardinals.

Kyle isn’t looking too hot right now.

The 2019 49ers were a model of what effective coaching should look like. Shanahan developed Jimmy Garoppolo into one of the best quarterbacks in the league and led the Niners to the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and the Kansas City Chiefs eventually defeated them. Shanahan and the 49ers, on the other hand, had a fantastic season. They weren’t widely regarded as Super Bowl candidates entering into the season.

In the year 2020, the Niners were beset by tragedy at every step. Nick Bosa, the NFL’s best pass rusher, has suffered a season-ending injury. George Kittle, a tight end, was out for half of the season. The offensive line was battered and bruised. Garoppolo has missed ten games this season.

Nothing to be concerned about. Shanahan was given a pass for the 6-10 record, and the focus immediately moved to the summer, when he approved a franchise-altering trade-up for quarterback Trey Lance.

Lance hasn’t even had a cup of coffee in the NFL yet, so it’s too early to call the deal a success or failure. However, it’s safe to say that the deal isn’t going to help the 49ers win games in 2021. The 49ers have lost three of their first eight games, including a home loss to the Arizona Cardinals, who are headed by Colt McCoy.

That’s not a good sign.

Kyle Shanahan has exhausted all of his justifications.

After the 49ers’ Week 9 defeat to the Cardinals without Kyler Murray, Shanahan gave few explanations for why his team lost such a winnable game.

Shanahan expressed his disappointment by saying, “I was quite upset.” “I thought we’d have a great game.” I had an excellent practice week. I expected us to progress even more than the week before. However, it did not turn out that way.”

“That is why I am so disappointed. I’m sure I’m wrong, but I’m shocked we didn’t do better today. I think we had a fantastic practice week… I believed the boys had been working hard in meetings all week, and I could feel their enthusiasm before the game. I was taken aback by how we played.”

According to Shanahan, the 49ers’ preparations for the game went really well. They have strict procedures in place. Everyone was in good health. They were simply outplayed and outcoached by a club that was without many important players, and they did so at home.

What does the future hold for the 49ers?

The 49ers will conclude the season with a losing record if they continue on their present path. It will be Shanahan’s fourth losing season in five years.

That’s not good again again.

There’s no arguing that Shanahan is an excellent offensive play-caller. The drives that the 49ers do score on these days are well planned. Shanahan’s ability to coach a whole team, on the other hand, is debatable. 2019 was fantastic, but the outcomes have been dismal year after year after then.

With Shanahan’s recent displays of annoyance and perplexity after defeats, one might argue he’s beginning to lose trust in his ability to win games in the NFL.
