Throughout the season, casual NBA fans have pondered if the Cleveland Cavaliers are the genuine thing or not. But, if they weren’t already believers, they should be.
The Cavaliers beat Giannis Antetokounmpo and the defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks 115-99 on Jan. 26. The victory increased their record to 30-19, putting them in third place in the Eastern Conference, ahead of the Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, and Philadelphia 76ers.
Darius Garland, Cleveland’s point guard, has been outstanding all season, and the game against the Bucks was no exception. He scored 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. In addition, he had eight assists.
The performance of the Cavaliers’ two outstanding big men, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, was vital in their victory. Allen finished with ten points and ten rebounds, and he utilized his defensive presence in the paint to limit Antetokounmpo, the two-time MVP and reigning Finals MVP, to 7-of-13 shooting. Mobley scored 16 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots as a rookie.
The victory was absolutely eye-opening. As a result, Kendrick Perkins made a bold statement regarding the Cavs.

Kendrick Perkins, who participated in 18 regular-season games with the Cavs between 2014-15 and 2017-18, was featured on NBA Today recently. And he sent a stern warning to everyone about the Cleveland club.
On the Jan. 27 broadcast, Perkins remarked, “When you look at this Cavs team, I’m watching them; they have these twin towers in Allen and Mobley, and the way that they’re protecting the basket is something wonderful to behold.” “They could be the finest defensive duo in the NBA when it comes to big men….” Then there’s the Garland setup man. Garland is, without a doubt, a fantastic performer. “There’s something about Garland that screams’superstar.’”
Before declaring head coach J.B. Bickerstaff a Coach of the Year contender, Perkins complimented other role players including Isaac Okoro and Cedi Osman.
But it was his boast about the team’s potential that was the most audacious.
“When I look at the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference,” he said, “their ceiling is the conference finals.” “No one wants to see them in the first or second round in the East.” “Right now, I’m saying it.”
Really? What are the finals of the conference?
That may seem to be a bold statement, but Perkins’ viewpoint isn’t that far-fetched. The rest of the NBA should pay attention to the Cavaliers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers must be taken seriously by the NBA.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Cavs, they may believe the club has defeated a lot of poor opponents and simply happened to have a nice night against the Bucks.
However, this is not the case. That victory was no fluke.
According to Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan, half of the Cavaliers’ wins have come against teams with a .500 record or better. ESPN even says they have had the fourth-hardest schedule in the NBA so far.
And they’ve done it despite losing Collin Sexton, their top scorer from last season, and backup guard Ricky Rubio to season-ending injuries. They’ve also been the team most affected by COVID-19.
Simply said, the Cavs are the genuine thing.
They start three big guys who guard the rim at an exceptional level, and Garland is a fantastic floor general who has developed into a decent shooter. Cleveland also possesses Lauri Markkanen in addition to Allen and Mobley. Kevin Love has also been a valuable contributor off the bench, while Okoro has developed into one of the league’s best perimeter defenders.
Overall, the Cavaliers have the necessary talent to make a long playoff run, and they will almost certainly acquire more before the NBA Trade Deadline. So Kendrick Perkins’ interpretation isn’t all that outlandish. The rest of the NBA has to start paying attention to the young Cavs.
Basketball Reference provided the statistics.
The Cleveland Cavaliers Will Surprisingly Win the Eastern Conference This Season… And, according to an intriguing metric, they’ll face the Warriors in the Finals once again.
