The Indianapolis Colts could be forced to play both Andrew Luck and rookie quarterback Carson Wentz if Wentz is unable to play in Week 3.
Carson Wentz has been the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles since he was drafted last year. If he misses this week’s game, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano could play 2 quarterbacks in his team’s upcoming game against the New England Patriots.
When Carson Wentz left the Philadelphia Eagles for the Indianapolis Colts this summer, the injury bug that plagued him during his time there followed him. Wentz may miss Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans after spraining both of his ankles in the Colts’ Week 2 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Colts are expected to employ several quarterbacks to fill the gap if Wentz is placed on the inactive list.
Brett Hundley and Jacob Eason are introduced.
The Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad According to sources, QB Brett Hundley got the bulk of starting repetitions in practice on Wednesday, and he and Jacob Eason may both face the #Titans if Carson Wentz is absent.
There’s still a chance Wentz (ankles) will be able to play. It’s possible that the final decision won’t be made until Sunday.

The Colts have just two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, including Wentz. Jacob Eason, a 2020 fourth-round selection, had never played in a regular-season game until last Sunday. He’s only thrown five passes thus far, two of which were to teammates and one to Rams defensive back Jalen Ramsey.
The Colts do, however, have a third quarterback on the practice squad: journeyman Brett Hundley. The club may promote Hunley to the game-day roster without making a personnel change under the NFL’s 2021 practice-squad regulations.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Colts will take advantage of that regulation this week, handing Hundley the “bulk of starting repetitions” in practice on Wednesday. Even more intriguing, they are really considering playing both Hundley and Eason in their next game.

Few teams have deliberately cycled between two quarterbacks throughout a game during the Super Bowl era. In the early 1970s, the Dallas Cowboys famously rotated Roger Staubach and Craig Morton, but the strategy was short-lived. Staubach was ultimately established as the full-time starter, and Morton was moved away a few years later.
Some teams have tried running gadget plays with a non-starting quarterback — the New Orleans Saints did it with Taysom Hill in previous seasons despite the presence of future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees — but that strategy hasn’t taken on.
The San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, respectively, have put together packages for first-round rookies Trey Lance and Justin Fields this season. In all cases, though, the teams did so to gradually acclimatize their prospective starters before handing them the keys permanently.
If the Colts do switch between Hundley and Eason on Sunday, it will be a rare occurrence in the NFL.
Carson Wentz did not practice on Thursday.

While the Colts remain hopeful that Wentz will play on Sunday, his lack of participation in practice makes a comeback appear more improbable. According to The Athletic, the veteran quarterback sat out Thursday, which is usually a hint that the player will miss the next game.
Wentz may not be ruled out until later in the week since he has significant experience playing under Colts head coach Frank Reich – the two worked together in Philadelphia from 2016 to 2017, securing the franchise’s first Super Bowl win in the process. Despite his limited mobility, Wentz represents Indianapolis’ greatest chance of defeating the Titans and improving to 2-1.
Given the severity of the injury, a Hundley-Eason combination seems to be the most probable result.
