A number of NFL players have been accused by their own team owners and employees of sexually assaulting women, as well as other forms of misconduct. For many years the league has taken a hands-off approach to policing player conduct in order to maintain its squeaky clean public image. But that may be about to change now that Roger Goodell is on his way out after the most tumultuous year for the league since it was founded.

“being punished for someone else’s actions quotes” is a term that has been used often in the sports world. The phrase “I’m going to punish everybody” was said by former NBA player Dennis Rodman after his team won their first championship.

'I'm Going to Punish Everybody'

Shaquille O’Neal is regarded as one of the best players in the NBA. O’Neal used his toughness and height to impose his way on the NBA, leaving an indelible mark. As a result of these considerations, the Hall of Famer took a bold stand on how he’d fare in today’s game.

When he first joined the NBA, O’Neal swiftly exceeded everyone’s expectations, becoming an all-time great player.

He was a near-impossible defensive matchup since no one could match his tremendous power and stature. For numerous years, O’Neal dominated the league, gaining the title as possibly the game’s most physically imposing player.

His domination earned him four NBA championships and three NBA Finals MVP awards, as well as 15 All-Star Game and 14 All-NBA honors and a regular-season MVP award. O’Neal was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on the first ballot, and his jersey was retired by the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and Orlando Magic.

All of these considerations led the Hall of Fame center to make a bold prediction about how he would do in today’s game.

In today’s NBA, Shaquille O’Neal feels he could score 50 points per game: ‘I’m going to punish everyone,’ says the narrator.

O’Neal is still regarded as one of the NBA’s most dominating players.

The four-time NBA champion was a physical force to be reckoned with, with his strength and raw power causing defensive nightmares. All of this instilled in him undying faith in his abilities, even after he had retired from the game.

In an interview with the Official Lakers podcast in 2018, O’Neal said that in today’s NBA, he thinks he would average 50 points per game.

“First and foremost, if I were to grow up in this period, I would not shoot threes.” That’s not what a huge man should be doing. “Without free throws, I’d average 50 if I played today,” Shaq claimed. “Because men don’t play rough, I’d average 50.” They moan and wail, and I’m going to punish them all.

“You’re going to have to defend me against all these folks talking about shooting jump shots.” With three or four fouls, you can’t defend me. Simply said, I’m going to punish you. I haven’t lost to many men who have thrown jumpers in my face, but I have beaten everyone by playing low.”

Because of his strength and stature, O’Neal wasn’t the most nimble player, but he just couldn’t be stopped defensively. He averaged north of 26.0 points per game during his heyday with the Lakers, with a high of 29.7 points in his lone MVP season in 1999-2000.

Because of the rule changes, the game has grown more offensive-oriented since O’Neal retired. His touches would be impacted by the transition to relying on the 3-point shooting, but no current center in the league can match his height and strength.

Another club would be hard pressed to restrict him at the low post, as he would certainly be one of the league’s top scorers. Although fifty points per game is a difficult goal, his scoring would be far better than his best season.

Tracy McGrady has the same unshakeable self-assurance.

Former NBA superstars like Shaquille O’Neal are far from the only ones who believe they could still dominate today’s game.

The many regulation changes, as well as the increasing focus on the 3-point shooting, will likely enable former greats to succeed offensively to a larger degree. Tracy McGrady, a Hall of Famer, said as much, saying that he averaged 40 points each game.

In October 2018, McGrady remarked on ESPN’s The Jump, “I look at some of these high-scoring players who are shooting a lot more threes than myself or Kobe did back in the days—averaging about 10 threes a game.” “I’ll easily average 35, 40 points each game.” Easily. I mean, I averaged 32 despite not shooting nearly as many threes… “And you’re not allowed to obstruct my progress while I’m running?”

Other all-time greats like Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Allen Iverson might make a strong case. Beyond that, NBA luminaries like Shaquille O’Neal and Tracy McGrady will continue to take aggressive stands.
