I get it. I get that losing sucks. Really, I do. But you know what’s even worse? Losing while you’re still out there, swinging, breathing, playing like it’s still your job and your team, because if you don’t, what’s the point of being out there? Watching your team get embarrassed by a superior opponent on the night of the biggest game of the year is a terrible way to go out. Losing is a terrible thing. Not a fun thing, a terrible thing. So when you watch your team lose, you want to yell at them for not giving it everything they had. You want to ask them how they could lose against a team that was flat-out playing better than them. You

There’s a lot of pressure in the sports world, and its mostly on coaches. This morning, a reporter asked a big name NFL coach, “What’s your message to the team?” The coach said, “Be the best you can be. Do the best you can do. That’s all you can try to do every day. Have the confidence to know that you can do the best you can do. And make sure that you’re always giving your best effort. If all that isn’t enough to shut them up, I’m not quite sure what’s going to be.”

The recent announcement of the Houston Astros potential sale to the Los Angeles Dodgers has caused the usual amount of controversy, but it’s been even more amplified in recent days with the announcement that the team could relocate to Los Angeles, and the announcement of the Dodgers’ plans to build a 20,000 seat retractable dome stadium in the same city. These issues have been heartily explored by the media, and some players have even voiced their opinions. The most famous case was when CC Sabathia expressed his concerns, and that triggered a series of tweets from MLB players which were generally critical of the move, and also included some support for the Dodgers.. Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns has always been a divisive quarterback. There are plenty of fans and media types that both love and loathe the QB, whether it was transferring from Texas Tech, enraging rival supporters at Oklahoma, or being compared to Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson in the pros. Mike Greenberg, the anchor of ESPN’s morning program, is firmly in the former camp.

Mayfield, he believes, is not only brilliant, but also undervalued and unappreciated. The TV presenter recently utilized his national platform to emphasize this argument and call out anybody who disagrees.

Baker Mayfield’s career has been up and down thus far.

Baker Mayfield, the Oklahoma quarterback, sparked a nationwide debate by placing an OU flag in the center of the Ohio State “O” in The Horseshoe to begin his 2017 season. In New York City, he was awarded the Heisman Trophy. The Cleveland Browns selected him first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft a few months later.

In that selection, Mayfield was chosen ahead of Allen and Jackson, two quarterbacks who are now enjoying more successful careers than the Austin, Texas native.

Despite putting up respectable statistics, the Browns quarterback finished 12-17 in his first two seasons as a starter. During his first two seasons, he racked up 7,552 yards and 49 touchdowns. His 35 interceptions were the problem.

Mayfield had a career low in completions in 2021, tied for his rookie season low with 486 passing attempts, and passed for less yards than quarterback had in any of the previous two seasons. He did, however, throw eight interceptions while leading Cleveland to an 11-5 regular-season record and a 48-37 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mayfield and the Browns’ luck ran out in the Divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs, but at least one famous commentator believes this was enough to put the skeptics to rest.

Mike Greenberg believes Mayfield’s detractors are being unjust.

“What if I told you a quarterback was selected by a club that had gone 1-34 in their previous 35 games?” On ESPN’s morning program, Get Up, Mike Greenberg posed the question. Greeny added, “And in his first three seasons with the club, he guided them to more victories than defeats.”

The quarterback did all of this while reporting to four different head coaches and the same number of offensive coordinators, he said.

“You might say, ‘That man is a miracle worker.’ “I’d compare him to Baker Mayfield,” the host said.

Greenberg then provided some eye-opening statistics to demonstrate his argument. Mayfield is the first Browns quarterback to start three straight Week 1 games since Bernie Kosar, and his eight games with an 80 or better passing rating were third in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, according to him.

Greenberg pointed out to doubters of Mayfield’s arm power that the quarterback had the greatest completion rate in the league (50 percent) on passes of more over 20 yards. He also used the Browns’ postseason win against the Pittsburgh Steelers – their first since 1994 – to refute critics who claim Mayfield isn’t talented enough to defeat good teams.

Greenberg wrapped off his case with a flourish, saying:

Here’s the reality. Despite all odds, Baker Mayfield has turned around what was once the worst franchise in American sports, and he is a major reason why they are talking Super Bowl in a town where the club was winless four years ago. So, if all of that isn’t enough to silence “them,” I’m not sure what would.

It was a compelling argument for Mayfield, who the Browns will have to decide on for the 2021 NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns must decide on a multi-year contract extension.

The deadline for the Browns to determine what kind of contract extension to offer Baker Mayfield is fast approaching, as is the 2021 NFL season.

Allen just established the market for 2018 elite quarterbacks by agreeing to a six-year, $258 million ($150 million guaranteed) contract to remain in Buffalo, and Jackson is expected to follow suit shortly. What does this imply for Mayfield’s future?

The tiny passer will undoubtedly get a significant contract, especially after last season. The issue is, for how much money and for how long do you want to do it? Mayfield has already eclipsed all Cleveland quarterbacks in the last 25 years, according to Greeny. He hasn’t quite reached the heights of his contemporaries, however.

Denzel Ward and Nick Chubb, Cleveland’s other 2018 draft selections, are allegedly being courted ahead of Mayfield. Following that, it’s all about the quarterback.

If last season was a fluke, the Browns may have the greatest quarterback in club history on their hands, and they could acquire him for a bargain since he hasn’t yet reached his peak. On the other side, if last year’s performance was a fluke and Cleveland invests heavily in Mayfield, it may be yet another big blunder by the lake.

Pro Football Reference provided all stats.

Baker Mayfield is favored by bookmakers to win the NFL MVP award over Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady.

It’s a beautiful night in Boston. The crowd is still filling up, as they do for every Boston Red Sox game, and the Fenway Park faithful are well-suited for their favorite team. The Red Sox are currently a very good team, but they are not the best in the Major Leagues. The game is not even six innings old, and the Orioles have yet to record a hit..
