In the past, athletes have been accused of taking performance-enhancing drugs and cheating in order to win. Sports Illustrated recently reported that the United States Anti Doping Agency is suing Lance Armstrong for violating his doping control agreement when he was a professional cyclist back in 1996 by using erythropoietin (EPO) even though EPO has not yet been designated as a prohibited substance. Armstrong’s defense lawyer argued that USADA should be able to prove its case through lab tests because it took 10 years after the alleged violation happened, but Judge Daniel Rovner disagreed with this opinion stating ‘I would do exactly what I did’. The judge ultimately decided against USADA on their $100M lawsuit and allowed Armstrong off with no punishment or penalty other than being banned from cycling for life.

The “i would do the same meaning” is a phrase that many athletes use to describe how they feel about their performance.

'I Would Do the Same Thing'

Last season, James Harden went out of his way to leave the Houston Rockets, and he got exactly what he wanted by signing with the Brooklyn Nets. But, in the end, were his efforts in vain?

After injuries to Harden and Kyrie Irving hindered the Nets from making it through the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, this year has been an utter rollercoaster for them. Irving missed the first several months of the 2021-22 season and is now limited to road games owing to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccination. Kevin Durant also had an MCL injury lately.

As a result, Harden has virtually gone from a Big Three to a Big One (at least at home), fueling speculation that he may test the waters in free agency this summer. Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade, both NBA luminaries, have stated their support for his doing so.

James Harden is said to be interested in experimenting with free agency.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, with Kyrie Irving’s drama and Kevin Durant’s injury as the enticing background, Harden, who has never been a free agent, is interested in exploring all of his options in unrestricted free agency this summer.

Harden has been dissatisfied with Irving’s part-time availability, as well as parts of head coach Steve Nash’s rotations, according to Fischer. He also doesn’t seem to appreciate Brooklyn as much as he loves Houston.

When approached about the reports following the Nets’ 106-96 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Harden said (H/T SNY), “I don’t know about reports. Did you guys hear from me?”

When asked whether he liked living in New York, Harden answered with an irritated “Yeah.”

Whether he confirms or denies the rumors, speculation over The Beard’s future will only get louder. They’ve reached the stage where other NBA legends are speaking to them.

Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade are on board with The Beard’s decision to test free agency.

Former championship-winning Miami Heat teammates Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade recently featured on an edition of TNT’s Inside the NBA. And it seems that they are in favor of James Harden weighing his choices this summer.

“Obviously, he’s not pleased,” O’Neal added, “since they had championship ambitions when the squad was originally put together.” “… When you have one man doing his own thing, a guy who is really needed, it throws off the balance of things. We (he and Wade) had one balance, one voice, his voice, and we performed everything correctly when we were in our mode. And we were successful. There’s just too much going on. So, James Harden, he was promised something. He’s saying, ‘Hey, I’m out of here this summer,’ because promises aren’t being met. And if I were him, I’d do the same thing.”

Harden, on the other hand, is more likely to have a “feeling of urgency” than Durant and Irving, according to Wade. They each have at least one ring on their fingers. He doesn’t have any.

“James is growing older, and if he continues to be as productive as he is… “Aside from his hamstring injury last year, he’s been very accessible for the most of his career, so this is sense of urgency moment for James Harden,” Wade said. “So, if he says he wants to test free agency, that’s exactly what it’s for….” We have no idea what’s going on in the locker room, but we do know that James Harden has been the team’s rock.”

The timing of these stories has been questioned by O’Neal and Wade’s co-star, WNBA great Candace Parker. Why are we concerned about next season when the Nets are still fighting for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference?

And she has a point, but the team’s present problems may be too much for them to manage.

James Harden has plenty to worry about this season, but he also deserves to consider all of his free agency alternatives.

The truth is that the Nets are just one game behind the Pacers for first place in the Eastern Conference. Whether or not Kyrie Irving is on the floor full-time, James Harden and Kevin Durant alone can contend for a championship whenever Kevin Durant returns. As a result, Harden should focus on the now rather than looking too far ahead.

When summer arrives, he deserves to consider all of his possibilities.

Harden, Durant, and Irving all signed with the Nets with the goal of competing for titles. Of course, no one could have prevented the events of last season. Dealing with Irving this year, who plainly isn’t as committed to winning a championship as Harden may have imagined he was, has to be discouraging.

COVID-19, it seems, isn’t going away anytime soon. So, how long will Irving remain a part-time player? If Harden remains in Brooklyn next season, would he have to deal with this again?

We don’t know what the future holds for us. But the fact that Irving isn’t delivering on his (possibly unspoken) promise of contending for championships is enough for Harden to seek elsewhere.
