In all the time I’ve covered baseball, I’ve avoided talking about an issue that affects the fans more than the players: the state of the league’s collective bargaining talks. And with that, I won’t make a pronouncement about the future of the sport’s labor situation here — I’ll let the words of baseball writer James McManis serve as my guide.
If there is one thing the deified figure of Chris Anstey proved during his brilliant time with the Brisbane Lions it is that he can find the positives in the toughest of situations. Anstey’s Lions team was constantly under-loved, under-paid and always under-manned but Anstey never let that get him down. Known as “the little battler” Anstey was a fierce competitor whose fierce competitiveness helped drive him to success in the AFL. While many of Anstey’s contemporaries were struggling with personal issues his career was going from strength to strength and he was playing for one of the best teams in the league.
We all have our own date with the angry side of life. It can show up in our personalities, our relationships, our jobs, our hobbies, or our sports (or all of the above). Every human has moments when they want to punish someone else, or lash out at someone for things they perceive as injustices, or lash out at themselves for not being perfect enough, or lash out at someone because they are angry, or are angry at someone because they are angry. It only takes one person to be angry, and it can go on forever.
After finishing 6-10 and having one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2020, the Dallas Cowboys are hoping to make a full turnaround in 2021. However, if they want that defense to play good football at all, they must put their faith in guys like Randy Gregory, who have developed into leaders in the locker room over the course of their time in Dallas.
Gregory hasn’t played a complete NFL season in his career, but he’s been with the Cowboys since 2015. Gregory, on the other hand, may have a huge year this season, and as he prepares for the new season, he recently called out his old Cowboys coaches.
In 2020, Randy Gregory appeared in ten games for the Cowboys.
Gregory has showed he has talent throughout his career, but he hasn’t consistently remained on the field to showcase it.
Gregory only had 11 total tackles in 12 games as a rookie in 2015, but he has nine tackles and one sack in two games in 2016. Gregory, on the other hand, was suspended for 14 games that season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. After missing all of 2017 due to suspension, he returned in 2018 to participate in 14 games and earn 25 total tackles and six sacks.
Gregory, on the other hand, was suspended for the whole 2019 season and a portion of the 2020 season by the NFL. Last year, it restored him after altering its policy to no longer punish players who fail marijuana tests.
Gregory appeared in 10 games in 2020, despite only playing in 25% of eligible defensive plays. He picked up 3.5 sacks.
He chastised his former Cowboys’ head coaches.

The defensive coaches for the Cowboys in 2020 were a big part of the team’s problems on that side of the ball. Last season, Dallas allowed 29.6 points per game, which ranked 28th in the NFL.
Gregory only participated in 25% of the defensive snaps while he was available last season, as previously stated. And it seems that he believes his former defensive coordinators Mike Nolan and Jim Tomsula’s preference for former Cowboys defensive tackle Aldon Smith had something to do with it.
“I had the impression that there was a little bit of favoritism going on… “They won’t let me overshadow their favorite,” he stated, according to The Athletic. “They knew I was capable of pulling it off, so they did all they could to keep me at bay. I’ve had my fair share of furious outbursts…. The best I could do was just go out on the field with the plays they gave me and make them worthwhile. I did that, but I felt I had been cheated out of a year last year.”
Last season, Smith appeared in 73 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. He has five sacks and 48 total tackles in his career. He is currently with the Seattle Seahawks, although his future is unclear following legal issues this summer.
Randy Gregory should be a bigger part of the Cowboys’ offense in 2021.
Jerry Jones approached Mike McCarthy over Gregory’s minimal playing time last season, according to Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated. Nolan and Tomsula, on the other hand, continued to play Smith more.
Now that Nolan and Tomsula have left the Cowboys, Gregory could see a big increase in playing time this season, particularly now that he has the backing of new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Quinn told The Athletic, “I was shocked he didn’t play more.” “I mentioned that to Mike. When it came to identifying a position, he was at the top of my list. His playing time will undoubtedly grow. I believe he’ll take off in a big way.”
Gregory may not have had a fair chance to establish himself in 2020, but he may be an important part of the Cowboys’ defense in 2021. This year’s plot should be fascinating to watch.
