After the US Open, Serena Williams has been asked about her on-court interview with Chris Evert during which she said “he will never be able to hold a candle” to Billie Jean King. The tennis great was not happy with the comment and responded on Twitter saying it’s time for people like Williams who disrespect others without giving credit back to stop playing in women’s matches.

“He Has Been Talking Trash From That Day” is a song by the band “The Dollyrots”. The song talks about how one person has been talking trash from that day.

Due to Michael Jordan’s prowess overshadowing theirs, several NBA players did not get the accolades they deserved throughout their careers. Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks is one former player who may know more about that anguish than anybody else.

Ewing and Jordan progressed through the ranks together, since they both started college the same year and Ewing joined the NBA one season after Jordan. Because Jordan was so successful, it frequently prevented Ewing from receiving the respect he deserved if Mike and the Chicago Bulls had not been so dominating.

Jordan seems to be aware of this as well. Ewing revealed in 2019 that he first met his fellow Hall of Famer while they were both still in high school, and that they’ve been talking trash ever since.

As freshmen, Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing met in the national championship game.

Jordan and Ewing both started college in 1981, with Jordan attending UNC and Ewing attending Georgetown.

Jordan had a good first season with the Tar Heels, who had a lot of talent. For the Hoyas, he averaged 13.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Ewing averaged 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

That season, both teams met in the national championship game, and Ewing had a fantastic game, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Jordan’s team, which included James Worthy and Sam Perkins, won 63-62, with MJ hitting the game-winning basket.

For the following two seasons, the Tar Heels legend remained at North Carolina and became a superstar. He was a two-time consensus All-American and AP Player of the Year in 1983-84. Ewing, who now coaches at Georgetown, remained in school until his senior year and went on to be a three-time consensus All-American, the AP Player of the Year in 1984-85, and a national champion as a junior in 1983-84.

North Carolina recruited Ewing before both of their collegiate seasons, bringing the two players together for the first time.

Patrick Ewing recounted one of Michael Jordan’s first encounters with him.

Patrick Ewing explored North Carolina as a collegiate choice before to his renowned Georgetown tenure.

Yes, he and Michael Jordan may have been teammates.

Although the Tar Heels were unable to sign the great big man, Jordan — who had already committed to the school — made an effect on him.

On a 2019 edition of The Dan Patrick Show, Ewing stated, “That was one of the first times I got to meet him, and he’s been talking trash since that day.” “… He throws salt in the wound that I never defeat him every time he gets.” I couldn’t defeat him in college, and I couldn’t beat him in the pros either. “I’m going to have to swallow my pride and say, ‘Yes, you’re correct.’”

That seems to be a harsh statement. During that visit, though, Ewing and Jordan reportedly played a pickup game.

Ewing recounted, “He was saying, ‘You can never dunk on me.’” “I’m wearing street shoes, and I immediately got up and shouted, ‘Come on, you’re too little,’” she says.

It would be great to watch footage of the conflict. We did, however, get to see a lot more MJ-Ewing matches in the NBA.

In the NBA, Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing renewed their rivalry.

Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing, much like in college, had great NBA careers that earned them spots in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. His Airness was a 14-time All-Star, 10-time scoring champion, five-time NBA MVP, six-time champion, and six-time NBA Finals MVP throughout his career. He also ranks seventh all-time in scoring with 32,292 points and first in career points per game (30.1).

With the New York Knicks, Ewing was named to 11 All-Star teams and seven All-NBA teams, and he was in the top ten in league history in career blocks with 2,894.

He, on the other hand, could never defeat Jordan.

Despite having some strong teams, the Knicks lost five times in the playoffs against Jordan’s Bulls during Ewing’s tenure, including in the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals. Only in 1994, when MJ was retired and playing baseball, did New York defeat Chicago in the playoffs.

Jordan may have begun talking trash when he and Ewing first met in high school, but he continued to do it throughout college and subsequently in the NBA. He always had the upper hand because of his brilliance, and Ewing could never get past him.

Sports Reference and Basketball Reference provided the statistics.
