The Cleveland Browns are currently coached by Hue Jackson, who has been in charge since 2016. Mayfield is a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and will be playing against the New York Jets on Sunday. The Browns’ game plan was to have other players take most of the snaps while they kept Baker Mayfield at bay but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen considering how bad their previous four games were with him as well as this one being just terrible performance so far
The question: Is Baker Mayfield worth a top-5 pick?

aaron rodgers number” is a term that is used to describe the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers. However, it’s clear that Baker Mayfield isn’t the answer for Cleveland Browns.

Especially When Compared to Aaron Rodgers, It's Clear Baker Mayfield Isn't the Answer for Cleveland Browns

On Christmas Day, the Cleveland Browns had enough in the tank to defeat the Green Bay Packers. However, Baker Mayfield’s four interceptions made it almost impossible.

Cleveland defeated 24-22, dropping to 7-8 in the process. The Browns are currently in fourth place in the AFC North, and it’s evident, if not quite certain, that Mayfield isn’t the solution at quarterback.

In Cleveland’s defeat to Green Bay, Baker Mayfield threw four interceptions.

To be fair, he wasn’t responsible for all of the interceptions. Still, the fact that Mayfield handed the ball to the Packers four times via the air is clearly the most significant narrative to emerge from this game for Cleveland. Especially in a game as close as this one ended up being, those four turnovers effectively cost the Browns the game.

Cleveland’s quarterback ended with a dismal passing rating of 55.3. He threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns on 21 of 36 attempts. No, he wasn’t entirely to blame for the selections. The Packers benefitted from two non-calls that seemed to be pass interference on his first and fourth interceptions. Despite this, Mayfield threw to the other team the whole game on Saturday afternoon. There would be cries for him to be tested for colorblindness if we didn’t know better. The Browns were decked up in white. The Packers were dressed in their home colors of green and white. Mayfield didn’t seem to notice the change.

He was the Packers’ best player who wasn’t named Aaron Rodgers or Davante Adams. For the adoring Lambeau Field spectators, he portrayed Santa Claus. He essentially gave the game to the Packers as a present.

Mayfield overshadowed Nick Chubb’s contributions to the Browns.

The fact that Cleveland’s offense truly unlocked the key to upsetting the Packers, particularly in the second half, had to make Mayfield’s bad day even more stressful for head coach Kevin Stefanski and the Browns.

Nick Chubb pounded Green Bay’s defense all night, and he turned it on when it counted. Chubb rushed 17 times for 126 yards and a score, averaging an astonishing 7.4 yards per carry. D’Ernest Johnson added four runs for 58 yards (14.5 yards per carry), giving the Browns a total of 219 yards on the ground.

The Browns would have worn down a Green Bay defense that started the game as one of the best in the league if Mayfield hadn’t given the ball over at the rate he did.

After falling down 24-12 early in the third quarter, the Browns scored 10 consecutive points and had a chance to win the game when they regained possession with 2:05 remaining. With less than a minute remaining, the Browns counted on Chubb to get the ball from their own 25-yard line to midfield.

Mayfield tossed the ball three times in a row in a wonderful situation with a loaded deck of timeouts and the ball at the 50. The first two passes were both incomplete. The third interception was his fourth of the game, and it was the game-winner for Green Bay.

It has to be painful for the Browns to accept this, particularly given the team’s poor track record at quarterback. With that in mind, it’s becoming more evident that Mayfield will not be the man to lead Cleveland to the promised land. To be honest, that was probably obvious before Christmas Day, but Mayfield’s four interceptions against the Packers served as a strong reminder, particularly because he was being compared to Rodgers.

During the first half of the game, FOX displayed a frightening image. To that point in the game, Mayfield had thrown 17 passes, three of which had been intercepted. Rodgers, on the other hand, had thrown 469 pass attempts at that point in the season…with just four interceptions.

Although an outstanding defense may win you a Super Bowl, the NFL is now dominated by high-level quarterback performance.

The Browns were eyeing Rodgers across the field as the sort of quarterback they wanted to have. When they selected Mayfield No. 1 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, they were searching for the sort of quarterback they felt he might be.

Mayfield has thrown 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season, including the four picks he tossed against the Packers. He’s only thrown 90 touchdowns and 54 interceptions since joining the league in 2018. Take a look at the interception-to-touchdown ratio. It’s not a nice sight.

Those aren’t figures worthy of the No. 1 overall selection, and they aren’t numbers worthy of the next deal Mayfield will seek if he stays with the Browns.

The Browns need to get rid of Mayfield as soon as possible. If it wasn’t obvious before, it certainly is now.
