Dwyane Wade Showers Cavs Rookie Evan Mobley With Massive Praise, Compares Him to Hall of Fame Teammate Chris Bosh

The NBA Draft class of 2021 was one of the strongest in recent memory, but big man Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers has perhaps been the biggest star so far.

Mobley’s efficient scoring performance and powerful defensive presence have helped the Cavaliers become one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. And, after strong praise from future Hall of Fame teammate Rajon Rondo, Mobley has just earned a huge tribute from NBA superstar Dwyane Wade.

For the Cavs, Evan Mobley has had a fantastic rookie season.

With a 31-20 record this season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have improved from near the bottom of the Eastern Conference the previous three years to only 1.5 games off of first place. And Evan Mobley, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, is a big part of the Cavs’ success.

This season, Mobley has been a consistent offensive presence for Cleveland, averaging 14.8 points and 2.6 assists while hitting 50.5 percent of his shots.

His defense, on the other hand, has separated him apart from the other rookies. The former USC player is averaging 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He’s also fifth in the NBA and tops among rookies with 2.6 defensive win shares, which measures how many victories his defense has helped Cleveland earn. Mobley also has the best defensive box-plus-minus among rookies, with 1.7 more defensive points per 100 possessions than the average NBA player.

The NBA just nominated Mobley to its Rising Stars Challenge roster for the 2022 All-Star Weekend, and Dwyane Wade reacted to the news by lavishing praise on the rookie big.

He was likened to Chris Bosh by Dwyane Wade.

Dwyane Wade, a potential Hall of Famer in basketball, recently appeared on TNT’s Inside the NBA, where the lineups for the Rising Stars Challenge were unveiled. Evan Mobley was selected among the players from the 2021 draft class, and Wade praised him, comparing him to his former colleague Chris Bosh, who is already a Hall of Famer.

On the first episode of the season, he commented, “When I look at Evan Mobley, I see Chris Bosh.” “I see Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors, but he has a right hand.” His emotions, just the way he plays the game, the way he can take you inside and outside. He doesn’t alter his expressions at all as he dunks on you. And, wow, it’s great to watch this child contribute to the team’s success. He isn’t merely there to fill out the paperwork.”

Wade looks to be a big fan of Mobley’s game, and his words might be key. However, they aren’t that far away. When Mobley first entered the NBA, he was likened to players like Chris Bosh and Kevin Garnett. And the figures add up.

For the Cavs, Evan Mobley is already on his way to being the next Chris Bosh… maybe even better

Dwyane Wade compared Evan Mobley to Chris Bosh during his time with the Toronto Raptors, and he’s right – at least offensively.

Mobley, like Bosh, can score near the hoop while also working away from it by hitting mid-range jumpers.

Bosh averaged 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds as a rookie. He also made 83.1 percent of his shots from 0-3 feet and 10 feet to the 3-point line. Mobley, who is already averaging more points than Bosh as a rookie, has similar tendencies, making 80.2 percent of his 0-to-16-foot tries.

The Cavs star, on the other hand, is a better defender than the Hall of Famer. In his career, Bosh never had a defensive box-plus-minus of more than 0.5 and never had more than 1.4 blocks per game.

As a result, Mobley may be closer to Kevin Garnett than previously thought.

Garnett shot 98.1 percent of his shots between zero and the 3-point line as a rookie, averaging 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. His defense, on the other hand, was much superior than that of Bosh. As a rookie, the 2007-08 Defensive Player of the Year recorded 1.6 blocks and a 0.9 defensive box-plus-minus.

Mobley has a great future, whether his game is more like Bosh’s or Garnett’s. The young Cavaliers player has the makings of a Hall of Famer.

Basketball Reference provided the statistics.

Cade Cunningham is unconcerned with Evan Mobley’s spectacular play, claiming that the Cavs star can’t play his game any better than he can.
