Sometimes, we can’t help but shake our head at the antics of professional athletes. First, Dwyane Wade started a game show made for kids, then he was the stunt double for a character in a Tyler Perry movie. Now, he’s ripped off the British game show called “The Wall” and made himself the host.

Sports fans in the United Kingdom have been left fuming after news broke that basketball star Dwyane Wade is the new host of their cherished game show, “Golden Balls”. Wade has been accused of “ripping off” the show, after he was outed as a celebrity contestant on the hit UK show, “I’ve Got A Secret”.

If you’ve watched live television lately, especially the NBA playoffs, you’ve probably seen ads for The Cube, a new game show on TBS led by former NBA star Dwayne Wade. The flap text does not reveal that The Cube is a parody of the popular British game show. They also fail to mention that one of the people behind the show who named Wade as host is actually the star himself.

Dwayne Wade is a former NBA superstar with ties to Hollywood

word-image-13977 Wade came to the NBA from Chicago, Illinois, after spending two years studying at Marquette University. In 2005, Wade was picked fifth in the NBA by the Miami Heat, something neither the player nor the club regretted. The 6’4 guard had a Hall of Fame career with the Heat. In 15 seasons with the club, interrupted by brief stints with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers, Wade averaged 22.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds. He made the All-Star team 13 times and the All-NBA team eight times. Wade won an NBA championship in 2006 when he teamed up with the legendary Shaquille O’Neal. The star drafted LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, leading to two more titles in 2012 and 2013. In addition to Chicago and South Beach, Wade also has ties to Hollywood. According to Women’s Health magazine, Wade began dating actor Gabriel Union in 2010. The couple got together in 2014 and had their first child together in 2018.

. After his NBA career ended, Wade made his way into the entertainment world. He is currently a studio producer for the NBA on TNT and has recently attempted to present game shows. Wade is also the executive producer of the game showThe Cube. It is a remake of the famous British game show. Deadline describes the show as follows: In the gameThe Cube, pairs of participants must complete a series of challenges within a small perseplex cube. He shows how even simple tasks like catching, throwing, scoring, memorization and balancing have become more difficult within the confines and pressure of a small room surrounded by a large studio audience. In the battle against time, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games, each worth more and more money as they get closer to the jackpot. In the American version of the game, contestants have the option of calling an NBA legend/presenter into the cube to help them with their assignments.

Wade is the latest athlete to want to host a game show.

Wade is not the first current or former athlete to choose to host a game show. Former major league player Joe Garagiola hosted game shows in the 1960s and 1970s, and NFL kicker Rolf Benirschke hosted Wheel of Fortune for six months in the 1980s, while Pat Sajak hosted his short-lived talk show. More recently, several athletes have attempted to handle the microphone. Retired NFL quarterback Michael Strachan presented the remake ofThe $100,000 Pyramid, and the entire Watt family, who play football, presented a game show based on a physical competition calledUltimate Tag. The most famous recent example of an athlete throwing his hat (helmet?) into the game show arena is Jeopardy presenter Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers QB, who tried to replace the late Alex Trebek. Wade has never been as candid as some of his teammates like Shaq and LeBron. Let’s see if he can come out of his shell as a game host. The first episode will air on the 10th. June at 9 PM ET on TBS premiere.
