Seems like everyone has an opinion about whether or not the Houston Rockets should trade James Harden. He has become the target of the most vitriolic criticism, which is understandable considering his perceived lack of defensive skills. However, the Rockets should allow him to finish his career in Houston—a place where he has flourished. The reason? He has become the best player in the NBA, and he will be attracted to the highest bidder.

Daryl Morey has probably invaded more fantasy leagues than any other GM in the NBA. He’s the man responsible for the Houston Rockets’ rise to prominence over the past few seasons, and he has a knack for finding superstars who are high-risk/ high-reward players. He’s also displayed an extreme fascination with Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard.

While we were watching the Rockets-Lakers game on Sunday night, we couldn’t help but notice how much Daryl Morey’s obsession with Damian Lillard is starting to hurt the Rockets and how it may be setting them up to fail. With the loss to the Lakers, the Rockets now trail the Golden State Warriors by 1.5 games for the top spot in the Western Conference. There is still six and a half weeks until the end of the regular season, but right now the Warriors and Rockets are two of the West’s best teams and their matchup is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season.. With his obsessive pursuit of Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard and reluctance to move Ben Simmons until Dame becomes available, Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey will drive the club into the ground.

The Sixers are now dealing with a lot of internal strife. Simmons was always expected to be moved, but the club seems to have alienated him to the point that he has lost interest in remaining in Philadelphia or even attending training camp. Meanwhile, Morey keeps putting up outrageous asking prices. One of the reasons he’s doing so is because he’s hoping to include Simmons in a package for Lillard in the future. Morey is taking the incorrect approach, since he risks squandering Simmons’ trade value and exacerbating an already precarious position.

The Sixers and Daryl Morey are adamant about dealing for Damian Lillard.

All indications point to Ben Simmons’ time in Philadelphia coming to an end — it’s a question of “when,” not “if” DeAndre Jordan and the Nets are working toward a split Suns among candidates for Spurs’ services Thad Young is a character in the film Thad Young

The 76ers have been reported to be interested in replacing one of their star point guards with another for quite some time.

Despite the great Blazers point guard recently saying that he does not want to play for another club in the 2021-22 season, Philadelphia continues to be connected to him. Portland is likewise trying to create a community around Lillard. The Sixers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, have their “eyes set” on Lillard.

From a basketball standpoint, Morey’s preoccupation with a potential Lillard deal makes sense. Lillard is the kind of facilitator and scorer who would fit in well with Joel Embiid in the backcourt. His ability to create shots and score from the perimeter are essential qualities for a Sixers club that has far too frequently depended on Embiid to save them in the playoffs.

A trade for Ben Simmons is the most obvious route to get Lillard. The money speaks for itself, and the Blazers would almost likely want Simmons as the cornerstone of any potential deal.

The Blazers, on the other hand, are adamant about not trading Dame. If Morey keeps hoping, he runs the danger of squandering his most valuable trading asset.

Ben Simmons is looking for a trade.

It was always a real chance that all of the rumors would lead to Simmons demanding a trade from the Sixers. That is precisely what has occurred.

Simmons sought a trade in a meeting with club officials last week in Los Angeles, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The 25-year-old also said that he had no intention of attending training camp.

Morey may be forced to act as a result of Simmons’ statement. He has been vague about the Sixers retaining their All-Star point guard up to this point. That may also explain why he was selling the Defensive Player of the Year candidate at such a premium price.

Philly, on the other hand, can no longer afford to take a gamble on the trade market. Opposing teams aren’t complaining about the price, and time is running out. Not to add, if the issue progresses, Morey runs the danger of lowering Simmons’ trade value.

Philadelphia must move quickly… otherwise

Before proceeding any further, it should be noted that Simmons seems to have a market. His name has been connected to the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the past. Perhaps the Golden State Warriors will re-establish themselves in negotiations.

But here’s the thing: there’s a catch. If (and most likely when) they move their divisive point guard, the Sixers will be in for a long period of transition. Isn’t it more prudent for Daryl Morey to begin that shift sooner rather than later? After all, the regular season is little over a month away.

Despite the fact that Simmons has a market, there is already a feeling that his worth has decreased, at least slightly. According to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, the Kings would not deal De’Aaron Fox or Tyrese Haliburton in exchange for Ben Simmons. Do the Sixers truly think they’ll receive a better deal if the situation worsens?

Morey might be holding out for the chance to see Damian Lillard in a Sixers uniform. But there’s no way of knowing when that chance will arise, which may have catastrophic repercussions in Philadelphia.
