Any athlete who wears the legendary Dallas Cowboys logo is going to be under a lot of stress. It’s a perk of the job. The Cowboys are perhaps the most popular team in the NFL, and their fans have high expectations practically all of the time.
However, Dallas has disappointed its supporters on several occasions during the last two decades. Every year since 1996, it has failed to advance beyond the NFC Divisional Round.
Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, has only won one postseason game in his six years as the team’s starter. Given his lack of playoff success, ESPN analyst and Cowboys hater Stephen A. Smith has high expectations for him.
While appearing on his program First Take, Smith had a direct message for Prescott.

Stephen A. Smith recently spoke with First Take on which quarterback he thinks will have the greatest pressure coming into the 2022 season.
Smith, who has a long history of hating the Cowboys, had a straightforward answer: Dak Prescott.
On the May 31 show, Smith commented, “I’m sick of him.” “It’s about time someone said anything like this. And I can say it with sincerity since I fully backed him in earning his money. But when are you going to show up?”
Prescott and the Cowboys looked fantastic at the close of the 2021 regular season, when they went 12-5 overall, according to the analyst. The squad won five of its last six games, scoring 56 points against the Washington Commanders in Week 16 and 51 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 18.
In a home Wild Card Round defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas scored just 17 points.
“It’s America’s team, dude; you’re always in the limelight,” Smith continued. “These are exceptional quarterbacks that we see. So, when are you going to be elite? I’m referring to when it really matters. … Dak Prescott is a wonderful player and a great leader, but we need him at crunch time. Enough with the ‘I’m that man,’ yet you’re going home when it truly matters. He needs to take charge.”
It’s time for Dak Prescott to carry the Cowboys all the way to the Super Bowl.

Prescott had a tremendous regular season in 2021, completing 68.8% of his throws for 4,449 yards and 37 touchdowns, according to Smith.
He passed for just 254 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the playoffs against the Niners, completing only 53.5 percent of his throws. Last season, the Cowboys had the best offensive in the NFL, averaging 31.2 points per game. Why were they unable to score more than 17 points in the playoffs?
Dallas has a strong team. Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard have a deadly one-two punch in the backfield, while CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup are terrific receivers. The Cowboys lost wide receiver Amari Cooper and offensive guard La’el Collins this summer, but Prescott will still have plenty of options in 2022.
Their star-studded defensive line, which includes DeMarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons, and Trevon Diggs, should be more than capable of holding their own against NFC powerhouses.
So, should the Cowboys be considered the NFC’s favorite? Certainly not. Prescott and company, on the other hand, have to put up or shut up. It’s no longer enough to make the playoffs. They need to compete for a title at long last.
