After an injury shortened his 2016 season, QB Dak Prescott finally got his chance to be a starting quarterback in 2016. That season was a story of redemption for Prescott, as he went from a journeyman to a key cog in the Cowboys offense. In spite of this, Prescott had a relatively low profile playoff run, but with the help of a stellar cast of offensive playmakers, it was enough for Prescott to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
In this final edition of our Prescott-Mania series, we look at the Cowboys passing game. The Cowboys’ passing offense took a massive step backwards in 2017, and the combination of poor play and a lack of weapons on the outside has led to a lack of success. In fact, in the seven games played without Dez Bryant, the Cowboys were a respectable 4-2, and in the five games with Dez the team was 4-1.
In the Cowboys’ 26-23 win over the Eagles Sunday night, the Cowboys snapped their two-year drought and won their first ever Super Bowl title. Even a coach as loyal to the Dallas Mavericks as Dak Prescott was finally able to celebrate a championship title. Prescott, having not earned the starting job until the middle of his second season in the league, finally got the chance to win a ring after the Cowboys’ 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.Sorry, Dallas Cowboys fans, this is not about Dak Prescott winning the Super Bowl. The quarterback, who was severely injured in 2020, will have to wait until February 2022 if he wants to celebrate THE championship.
A proud former Mississippi State Bulldog, Prescott was at the game – and then in the locker room – when the university’s baseball team won its first-ever national championship in Starkville, Mississippi.

Mississippi State defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 9-0, with two pitchers, Will Bednar and Landon Sims, combining for one hit, reports ESPN. It was a dominant performance by the Bulldogs.
The Commodores were the defending champions, winners in 2019. Last year’s annual tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. To advance to the final series, Vanderbilt defeated Stanford, then split with NC State. The Wolf Pack was forced to miss the third and final game due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the team, reports Sports Illustrated.
The Bulldogs beat Texas and Virginia, then lost to the Longhorns before beating them a second time to advance to the finals.
Mississippi State scored a run in the first inning and two in each of the second and fifth innings, building a solid lead. Home runs by Logan Tanner and Kellum Clark in the seventh inning gave the Commodores no chance and sent the team from Starkville to Omaha to celebrate.
The Bulldogs have produced a number of notable athletes over the years, including former major leaguers Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro, who were nicknamed Thunder and Lightning in Starkville and fell just short of the world title in 1985.
The most famous former professional athlete in the state of Mississippi is currently Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. The Dallas signal-caller was in Nebraska to see his school play for the title.
After the game, manager Chris Lemonis escorted the new $160 million man to the winners’ locker room. The NFL leader had some words for the team:
Congratulations guys, well done. Get back! You’re living legends. This school, this fan base, believe me, we are all very proud of you. We are very grateful to all of you. A man. Keep it up. I’m happy for you, congratulations.
Prescott seemed incredibly proud of his old school. After his speech, he gave Lemonis a big hug and then went around the room to celebrate with the players.
Mississippi State is one of three schools in the Power 5 conferences (ACC, Big 10, SEC, Big 12 and Pac-12) that have never won a national championship in a team sport. Now that the monkey is off his back, there are only two schools left with this unwanted distinction.
Virginia Tech of the ACC and Kansas State of the Big 12 are two schools that have yet to win a championship.
On the other hand, Stanford (126), UCLA (118) and USC (107) have the most championships of any sport through 2020, according to the NCAA. As for dominance in specific sports: Oklahoma State has 34 wrestling titles, UCLA has won the men’s outdoor track and field trophy 26 times and Denver has been on top in skiing 24 times.
UCLA has the most national championships in baseball with 12, followed by LSU and Texas with six each.

MESSAGE: LSU has a 6-foot-4 QB who can throw the ball 100 mph. Before the start of the 2017-2018 NFL season, it wasn’t looking too good for the Cowboys. They had just lost all three quarterbacks who had led them to the 2016-2017 NFC East Champs, all to injury, and then they were facing the possibility of going 0-16 for the first time in over 40 years. However, after Tony Romo’s replacement, rookie QB Dak Prescott, led the team to a 12-4 regular season record, a win in the NFC Wild Card game, and a win in the NFC Divisional round, the Cowboys became the NFL’s first team in a half century to win the Super Bowl..
