Ben Simmons will be entering his third season in the NBA next month, so it would only be reasonable to expect that he will be a more experienced player than he was when he was a rookie. At the beginning of the 2017-2018 year, Simmons was a total disappointment. He shot really badly from the field, and it is said that he often played with a broken jump shot.
The Philadelphia 76ers are the latest team that has noticed rookie point guard Ben Simmons is struggling with his jump shot. The team claimed it has already worked with the former No. 1 pick to fix his release point, but Simmons is reportedly leaning towards a rare change in his approach.
Ben Simmons is one of the best players in the entire NBA. But he’s failed to truly show his immense potential over the past few seasons. This is a shame, because Simmons was once considered a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year in the 2016-17 season. The problem for Simmons is that he has a major flaw in his jump shot. In fact, Simmons has been severely lacking in both his jump shot and free throw shooting since the 2016-17 NBA season.

There is no other solution.As if it wasn’t already clear Sunday night, giving up a wide-open dunk late in Game 7 to throw it under the hoop to a double-covered Matthysse Tibull was the final nail in the coffin for Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers. He can’t shoot. We know this to be true. But his problems with the offense are much deeper at this point. His confidence has dropped so much that he won’t even attempt a throw if he’s just under the rim and doesn’t see a defender.
It’s time for Simmons to radically change his attitude, even if it means changing hands completely.

Simmons has never been a great shooter, but he’s never been worse than what he showed in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. In the postseason, he converted 34.2 percent of his free throws from the free throw line, the worst percentage among qualifiers in NBA playoff history.
His struggles on the line clearly affected his play on the field, as late in the game he simply refused to throw the ball. During the second round of the Sixers series against the Atlanta Hawks, Simmons made just three shot attempts in the fourth quarter. He hasn’t shot in the fourth quarter in the last four games of the series.
Simmons does so much on the basketball court at the top level, but no team can win in the playoffs if their second offensive star isn’t even looking at the basket. His confidence is gone, his shooting is still robotic and clumsy, and he hasn’t improved one iota in his four NBA seasons.
A desperate change is afoot.
Simmons would consider switching from left-handed to right-handed

After another embarrassing pitch in the playoffs, Simmons would finally have to get to work to fix his most glaring shortcoming. He can become a talent like Magic Johnson, as long as he learns to make mid-range jumpers when he’s not being played.
But his left hand is clearly failing. As a result, Simmons would consider switching to his non-dominant right hand this season, which would be an unprecedented move.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst appeared on SportsCenter on Monday and said a transfer of Simmons to right back is not out of the question.
One of the things I’ve heard being considered – no decision has been made yet, but it’s being considered – is whether or not he’s going to change his dominant arm from left to right, Windhorst said. This is a radical measure. It’s ambidextrous. Some things in his life he does with his right hand. It’s not crazy. Some statistics show that he’s a pretty good right-handed shooter, but these are obviously big changes and will take some time to take into account.
Ben Simmons, it seems to me, will address this issue seriously in the coming months of recovery.
Changing your shooting arm is not as crazy as you might think

Changing hands completely in the middle of his NBA career in order to shoot may seem like an irresponsible decision on Simmons’ part, but it’s entirely possible that he was a right-hander disguised as a lefty all along.
When Simmons was younger, his father forced him to practice shooting and dribbling with his left hand so he would become a two-handed player on the court. Over time, he became so accustomed to shooting with his left hand that he continued to do so throughout high school and college.
I think I’m supposed to be right-handed, Simmons told Kevin Armstrong of the New York Daily News in 2016. It’s only natural now.
Even during his young NBA career, former teammates advised Simmons to switch to right back. J.J. Redick, who last played two seasons with the Sixers, said he encouraged Simmons and DeAndre Jordan to become right-handers.
I saw her shoot with her right hand. That’s the best form for right-handers, Redick said in a recent episode of his podcast The Old Man and the Three . You do everything else with your right hand, I don’t see why you would throw a basketball with your left hand.
So Simmons’ change of shooting arm is not as far from the truth as one might think. And it can’t get any worse. Why don’t you try it?
