Michael Jordan found it difficult to let go. Who can blame him, after all? With the Chicago Bulls, he was probably the best player in NBA history, winning six titles.
Jordan was a three-time NBA All-Star. He slowed down following his second retirement, but he was still one of the top players in the game. Doug Collins, his former coach, described him as “a luxury automobile, not a sports car.”

Jordan first left the NBA following the 1993 season to pursue a career in baseball. He returned to basketball after an unsuccessful one-year attempt to sign with the Chicago White Sox, when he hit.202 in Double-A. He didn’t seem to miss a beat.
He participated in the Bulls’ final 17 games of the season, helping them to a 13-4 record and a playoff berth. In the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Chicago Bulls were defeated by the Orlando Magic. Jordan and the Bulls went on to win their second three-peat in a decade over the next three seasons.
Jordan began to crumble after the Bulls’ disintegration. After his sixth triumph, he retired once more. In 2000, he returned to the Washington Wizards as a part owner and president of basketball operations. He was back on the court for the Wizards a year later.
Jordan wasn’t the dominant force he was with the Bulls after a three-year layoff, but he still put up some outstanding numbers. He averaged 21.2 points per game in his two seasons with the Wizards, down 10 points from his time with the Bulls. His field goal percentage also decreased dramatically with the Wizards, from.505 with the Bulls to.431.

Jordan could still play despite being a step or two slower. After three years away from the game, he shown that he could still play at the Jordan level in spurts. The lack of consistency became an issue. Following a career-low six points in a game against the Indiana Pacers, he became the league’s oldest player to score more than 50 points when he scored 51 against Charlotte the next night.
Many people had misgivings about returning to work after a three-year hiatus. Doug Collins, Jordan’s coach with the Bulls from 1986 to 1989 and subsequently with the Wizards, was one of the few people who didn’t share those misgivings.
“I knew if Michael was going to do this, he thought he could still play pretty darn well,” Collins told Sports Illustrated in 2002.
Collins witnessed the Jordan of old up close, as well as the Wizards’ more seasoned and craftier version. He made a comparison between the two. Collins explained, “It’s no longer a sports car, it’s a luxury car.”
After Air Jordan, Jordan learnt to adapt well to life.
Jordan’s spring in his step had faded, but he was still better than most. He was still one of the Wizards’ hardest workers, and some of the players picked up on it.
Guard Tyronn Lue stated at the time, “When you see how hard he works and how he carries himself, you want to do the same.” “That’s the kind of thing that gets passed down to all of us.”
Jordan’s experience would win out over an athletic young gun, according to Charles Oakley, a buddy of Jordan’s and a player for the Bulls when MJ was with Washington.
Michael couldn’t have been as good if he wasn’t fundamentally sound, according to Oakley. “He’s proving that an old head can beat a youthful pair of legs in basketball.”
Jordan’s two seasons with the Wizards weren’t particularly successful by his standards, but he demonstrated that a luxury car was far more effective than many of the other high-priced sports cars.
