There are a lot of great games that were released in the 8-bit era, and the majority of them were developed by Sega. The amount of love given to games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage is simply amazing. However, there are a few games that are often forgotten, and one such game is Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX.
Back in 1987, Sega released one of the most memorable games of the 8-bit era. It was a side scrolling action platformer that placed you in the shoes of Alex Kidd, a young boy who was trying to save the world from occupation by aliens, using the power of the Miracle World. To do this, he had to find his way through a number of levels, jumping, running and climbing his way to the top, defeating enemies, and collecting items. The game was an instant hit, and the rest, as they say, is history. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, an enhanced version of the 16-bit era game, is now on the horizon for the PS4 and PC.
Alex Kidd is the latest series from Sega’s 8- and 16-bit era to get the modern-day remastering treatment. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a revamping of the 8-bit Sega Master System platformer. The full game releases on June 24, but we checked out a demo to see how things are coming along. The three levels included showed off the variety of gameplay at work in Miracle World. The focus is primarily on familiar platform running and jumping with lots of block smashing. Gold blocks reveal coins used to buy things in the shop and power-up items. A variety of enemies populate the landscape waiting to be punched or just avoided, and there are plenty of regular blocks that can be destroyed or jumped on.
