The word immersion is overused in the gaming industry, but it fits perfectly with what Turtle Beach offers. In another game I tested, Kingdom Hearts 3, the Recon 500 again performed well. There are many sound effects during the fight against the heartless. Yoko Shimomura’s awesome fight theme is played, Donald casts spells, and Goofy laughs during the fight. Everything is loud, but I could still hear the heartless attacks from a few feet away and knew exactly where they were coming from. What helps the headset capture those low and high frequencies are the all-new patented dual drivers, which Turtle Beach says deliver extremely detailed gaming sound across a huge soundstage. Despite the excellent sound quality in Call of Duty: Warzone and Returnal, the sound quality inFortnite was slightly different. When the music started playing in the car next door, the sound completely concentrated in my left eardrum and was overwhelming. It went roughly from left to right and sounded too loud. The Recon 500’s performance can vary in some games, but of the six other games tested with this headset, Fortnite was the only outlier. The cable is 0.76 m long and is braided, so it does not wear out. In my experience, it also tangles easily. However, it is a little annoying that the thread used to attach the rounded pads to the frame is slightly bent. This was not an issue during my use of the headset, but it can become an issue with extended use or many hours of play. After a few hours of use, the helmet starts to feel heavy and I feel the weight pressing down on the sides of my head. Despite this heaviness, the bottom of the pads wrap freely around my large earlobes. On a hot summer day in a small room, your head will probably burn in these headphones. Turtle Beach should have a fan extension available for purchase…. All kidding aside: The memory foam cushions around the speakers are comfortable, but the overall weight may be a drawback for you. Note that there is only one wired option for this series of Turtle Beach headsets. This alone can be a major obstacle for those looking to buy a wireless headset, especially in this price range. If you have a phone without a headphone jack, this accessory cannot be used as a universal audio solution either. On the other hand, one of the advantages is that you can take it with you on the road and still look good if you have a phone with a plug. The microphone can be unplugged at any time, so you won’t look silly if you leave it lying around like the Razer Kraken X. The arctic white style and unique pattern will make you stand out in the crowd. They’re not as sleek as Beats or the bigger headphone brands like Sennheiser, but they certainly won’t turn you away.
