Following a poor 2021 season, the Tennessee Titans were widely anticipated to return for the 2022 NFL season with the same squad that ended tied for the best record in the AFC with the Kansas City Chiefs.

That’s all there is to it.

The Titans traded for former Los Angeles Ram Robert Woods in March after releasing veteran wide receiver Julio Jones. Tennessee also dealt standout wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 18th and 101st overall selections in the 2022 draft, which was the greatest surprise of the offseason. The team couldn’t afford to give Brown the four-year, $100 million contract extension he got from Philadelphia, so sending him away was the next best thing.

The Titans selected Treylon Burks out of Arkansas with the 18th overall choice, and he projects to be a weapon comparable to Brown in the NFL. A few rounds later, they pulled off another surprise by picking Malik Willis of Liberty, possibly the finest quarterback prospect in the draft.

Tennessee’s future seems bright thanks to Willis’ selection. Ryan Tannehill will have a $36.6 million cap cost if the organization decides to keep him for the 2023 season. Given that the Titans have Super Bowl ambitions but have yet to achieve them under Tannehill, this might be his last opportunity to win a title before being benched in favor of Willis.

Even without Brown on the roster, the Titans will be aiming for the AFC’s top seed, and a favorable schedule will help them achieve that goal.
