Daniel Jones will have one final shot to show himself as a viable NFL starting quarterback against the New York Giants in 2022. The G-Men might make a splash in the NFC East this season if he succeeds. If he doesn’t, the team will have to go back to the top of the draft to locate a franchise quarterback.
This season, the New York Giants conducted yet another hard reset, hiring their sixth head coach in the previous seven seasons. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, both former Buffalo Bills, are now in command in New Jersey, and they’re giving Jones another opportunity.
In fact, 2022 is likely to be the last year for a slew of Giants brought in by the previous administration. Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay, for example, are both running backs.
The Giants didn’t accomplish much in free agency, releasing more players than they signed, and having a hit-or-miss draft. Despite the fact that Big Blue’s late-round choices were hit-or-miss, the squad smashed their first two. Kayvon Thibodeaux (DE, Oregon) and Evan Neal (T, Alabama) are two top prospects who should contribute right away.
But Jones will be the focus of the season’s greatest questions. Is he the Giants’ future quarterback? Is Schoen and Daboll doing enough this summer, whether he is or not, to create the groundwork for a future winner?
